About the Role
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own and evolve our Azure cloud platform. You'll design resilient, secure, and self-service infrastructure, modernize our CI/CD and deployment practices, and help move the org toward a platform-engineering model where product teams ship faster with less operational overhead. This is a high-ownership role for someone who thinks in systems, automates relentlessly, and is comfortable being the final word on production reliability.
Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineering: Design and automate Azure infrastructure (PAAS and IAAS) using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred), Python/PowerShell scripting, and Kubernetes manifests/Helm charts.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps Pipelines (YAML) and GitHub Actions for automated build, test, security scanning, and deployment.
- Kubernetes & Containers: Manage and optimize Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters, including networking, autoscaling, RBAC, node pool strategy, and operational reliability. Own container image hygiene, registry management, and workload security.
- Observability & Reliability: Implement and mature observability (metrics, logs,
traces, alerting) using tools such as Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana, or Datadog. Define and track SLOs/SLIs, drive incident response and blameless postmortems, and provide L3 support for infrastructure and deployment-related production issues.
- Security & Governance (DevSecOps): Integrate security into the pipeline for eg., SAST, DAST, dependency/container scanning, and secrets management. Implement Azure security services (Key Vault, Managed Identities, Defender for Cloud) and policy-as-code (Azure Policy, OPA Gatekeeper, or Kyverno) to enforce governance at scale.
- Cost & Performance Optimization: Monitor cloud spends and drive FinOps practices including but not limited to rightsizing, reserved capacity/savings plans, and tagging discipline, while balancing scalability, security, reliability, and cost in every recommendation.
- Proof of Concepts & Innovation: Prototype and evaluate new tools and patterns for CI/CD, infrastructure deployment, and monitoring; bring recommendations back to the team with explicit trade-offs.
- Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner closely with development, QA, and security teams to deliver reliable platform capabilities. Mentor junior engineers and champion DevOps/SRE best practices across the org.
- Resilience: Support multi-region deployments, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability architectures for business-critical systems.
Requirements
- B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 6+ years of overall experience, with a minimum of 5 years hands-on with Microsoft Azure.
- Minimum 4 years deploying and managing containerized microservices on Kubernetes (AKS preferred).
- Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines at scale (Azure DevOps Pipelines and GitHub Actions).
- Solid experience with observability/monitoring stacks and incident response practices.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor) to accelerate development, automation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Exposure to multi-region deployments, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures.
- Strong Git-based workflows and version control practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently, at pace, in a globally distributed team environment.
Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) — Preferred
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) — Preferred
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate — Preferred
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) — Good to have
Desirable Skills
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure (preferred); experience with Google Cloud Platform is an added advantage.
- Experience with policy-as-code and governance tooling (Azure Policy, OPA Gatekeeper, Kyverno).
- Exposure to platform engineering practices.
- Experience with FinOps / cloud cost optimization tooling.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary with a generous profit and equity-sharing plan tied to Optym's growth.
- Comprehensive health insurance and well-being initiatives.
- Generous paid time off and parental leave.
- Hybrid work model with a collaborative, ownership-driven culture.
- Direct access to leadership and real influence over platform direction as Optym scales globally.
