Quantity Surveyor
Associated Shop/Location: Abu Dhabi Pipe Fabrication

Basic Function The Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing the commercial, financial, and contractual aspects of piping and structural fabrication projects. The role focuses on cost estimation, quantity measurement, budgeting, cost control, contract administration, progress measurement, forecasting, and financial reporting.
The QS works closely with Project Controls, Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Subcontractors, Suppliers, and Clients to ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets and contractual requirements. The position also provides commercial and cost-control guidance to identify cost-saving opportunities and support overall project profitability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree or Associate qualification in Quantity Surveying, Cost Engineering, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong knowledge of construction/fabrication quantity measurement and cost-control practices.
- Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, reaching, grasping, repetitive movements, and working within fabrication/shop environments.
- Ability to work effectively in both office and fabrication-shop environments.
Minimum Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Engineer, Cost Control Engineer, or similar role.
- Experience in construction, EPC, piping, structural, oil & gas, or fabrication projects is preferred.
- Experience working with fabrication shops, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), quantity take-offs,
and project budgets.
- Review drawings, specifications, scope of work, and project requirements to determine quantities and costs.
- Establish cost baselines and monitor project costs against approved budgets.
- Support tendering, bidding, and commercial evaluations.
2. Contract Administration
- Administer project contracts and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Review contract terms, commercial conditions, and scope requirements.
- Manage contract variations, change orders, claims, and related commercial documentation.
- Support subcontractor and supplier selection, bid evaluation, and commercial negotiations.
- Maintain accurate records of contractual and commercial commitments.
3. Cost Control & Financial Monitoring
- Monitor project expenditure and cost performance against approved budgets.
- Prepare regular cost forecasts and Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
- Track committed, actual, forecast, and projected costs.
- Identify cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Support effective financial control throughout the project lifecycle.
4. Progress Measurement & Valuation
- Measure and validate completed fabrication and construction quantities.
- Prepare progress reports, valuations, and payment documentation.
- Conduct regular visits to fabrication shops to verify completed work and physical progress.
- Liaise with Construction, Project Controls, Engineering, Clients,
and Subcontractors to validate progress.
- Maintain accurate quantity, productivity, and cost records.
5. Cost Planning & Commercial Advisory
- Provide cost-planning and commercial guidance to project teams.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve project efficiency.
- Assess the financial impact of changes, delays, variations, and scope modifications.
- Recommend corrective actions to maintain project cost and schedule objectives.
- Support management with commercial analysis and cost-related decision-making.
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare periodic cost, progress, forecast, and commercial reports.
- Maintain accurate project cost databases, quantity records, and supporting documentation.
- Provide management with timely updates on cost performance, risks, commitments, and forecast outcomes.
- Ensure all commercial and cost-control records are maintained in accordance with project procedures.
