– QS Engineer
Department: Highways & Structures – DPR / Pre-Bid / Tendering
Experience Level: 5–10 years
Role Overview:-
The Quantity Surveying Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, BOQs, tender documentation, and detailed quantity take-offs for highway and bridge infrastructure projects. The role requires in-depth understanding of EPC, HAM, and item rate contract mechanisms, along with strong technical expertise in structure-related estimations, rate analysis, and coordination with design and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation & Quantity Surveying
- Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates for DPR and pre-bid projects involving highways, bridges, flyovers, underpasses, and other structures.
- Perform quantity take-off and estimation based on optimized designs and approved drawings or inputs received from designers.
- Conduct rate analysis using SOR/DSR, MoRTH specifications, item specific methodology and market rate assessment from vendors.
- Prepare and review Running Account (RA) Bills, Change of Scope Proposals (COS), variation statements, and re-measurement reports.
2. Tendering & Documentation
- Develop complete tender documents based on CPWD, MoRTH, Railway, FIDIC, and client-specific formats.
- Draft and review technical specifications, special conditions, project work specifications, and bidder instructions.
- Support pre-bid activities with detailed item-wise cost build-up and risk assessment.
3. Coordination & Client Interaction
- Liaise with clients to clarify quantities, specifications, and tender documents.
- Coordinate with internal design teams and field engineers for verification of quantities and technical requirements.
- Participate in discussions on re-measurement, variation claims, and approval of interim bills.
4. Structural & Site Technical Support
- Prepare Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) for all structural components.
- Review structural drawings, design reports, and construction programs for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide support to design team by producing most accurate rates as per location and project requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in highway and bridge quantity estimation.
- Sound knowledge of EPC, HAM, Item Rate contracts, and associated regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Road Estimator, MS Excel (Advanced), etc.
- Understanding of MoRTH specifications, IRC codes, CPWD/DSR, and contract conditions.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Educational & Qualified Requirements
- BE Civil Engineering
- PGDM in Construction Project Management/ Quantity Surveying and Cost Management will be advantageous.
- Min 2 years of onsite execution experience (Infra Projects preferable)
- Min. 3 years of experience in QS and bridge/highway engineering.
Key Project Exposure
- Execution of flyovers/ elevated corridors/major/minor bridges/VUPs, LVUPs, PUPs projects having cost min. 100 Cr or more
- DPR preparation for NHAI, Railways, PWD, Municipal Corporations, State Road Departments, etc.
- Pre-bid estimation for highway, structural projects.
