: Program Manager Intern
Position: Program Manager Intern
Employment Type: Full-Time Internship
Work Mode: Work From Office
Location: Bhubaneswar, Odisha
Department: Program Management / Operations
Reporting To: Program Head / Management
About the Role
We are looking for a Program Manager Intern with a solid analytical, financial, and problem-solving mindset to work closely with the program and leadership teams. The role involves looking at programs end-to-end, understanding their financial and operational performance, identifying gaps and trends, and recommending interventions to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall outcomes.
The ideal candidate should be someone who does not simply review numbers or follow existing processes, but actively asks what is working, what is not working, why it is happening, and what can be done better.
Key Responsibilities1. Program Performance & Financial Analysis
- Analyse programs from both financial and operational perspectives, including revenue, costs, budgets, utilisation, profitability, productivity, and overall performance.
- Track planned vs. actual performance, identify variances, inefficiencies, cost overruns, and areas of under-utilisation.
- Review program-level financials and operational data to understand the key drivers behind performance.
- Build and maintain MIS, dashboards, trackers, and periodic management reports.
- Identify trends, recurring issues, unusual variations, and early indicators that may impact program performance.
2. Program Audit, Review & Optimisation
- Review programs in and out, examining processes, resources, costs, timelines, execution quality, and outcomes.
- Conduct detailed checks to identify gaps between planned processes and actual execution.
- Analyse whether existing resources, processes, manpower, vendors,
and costs are being utilised efficiently.
- Identify redundant, inefficient, or unnecessary activities and assess opportunities for cost and process optimisation.
- Continuously evaluate whether the existing program structure is delivering the desired results and identify areas requiring intervention.
3. Insights, Recommendations & Program Revamp
- Convert data and observations into actionable insights and recommendations for management.
- Identify areas where programs, processes, workflows, cost structures, reporting mechanisms, or operating models need to be improved or revamped.
- Develop data-backed recommendations covering the problem, root cause, proposed solution, expected impact, and feasibility.
- Support the implementation of approved improvements and track whether the changes deliver the intended results.
- Benchmark historical performance and trends to identify opportunities for improving program efficiency, quality, scalability, and outcomes.
4. Management Support & Decision-Making
- Work closely with program heads and leadership to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Prepare concise reports and presentations highlighting what happened, why it happened, what the implications are, and what should be done next.
- Track key action points, risks, deviations, and improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to obtain information, validate findings, and support execution of corrective actions.
- Take ownership of assigned analytical and improvement projects and ensure timely closure.
Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with numbers and financial data.
- Strong in Excel / Google Sheets, data analysis, and reporting.
- Curious and willing to question existing processes rather than accepting them at face value.
- Able to connect financial performance with operational performance.
- Strong at identifying patterns, gaps, trends, and opportunities from data.
- Proactive in suggesting solutions and capable of presenting recommendations logically.
- Comfortable working independently while coordinating with multiple teams.
- Interested in program management, business operations, consulting, finance, strategy, or analytics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or pursuing a degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong academic and analytical capabilities will be preferred.
- Prior experience with MIS, financial analysis, business analytics, project management, or operations will be an advantage.
What Success Looks Like The role goes beyond reporting what happened. The intern is expected to understand why it happened, what it means for the program, what can be optimised, and what should change.
- The ultimate objective is to develop a professional capable of looking at a program holistically, identifying financial and operational inefficiencies, recognising emerging trends and risks, and providing data-backed recommendations that improve program performance, efficiency, and outcomes.
