Your Job
Molex is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer / Technical Lead to join the Multiphysics Simulation Group within Global Engineering Services (GES). In this role, you will combine deep expertise in structural simulation with advanced surrogate modeling techniques to accelerate product development and support Molex's vision of Virtual Product Qualification (VPQ). You will drive innovation by developing predictive models that transform complex simulation data into actionable engineering insights, enabling faster, more informed design decisions across a diverse portfolio of products and industries.
Our Team The Multiphysics Simulation Group within Molex's Global Engineering Services organization serves as the predictive engineering backbone for the company. Our team develops advanced simulation methodologies, digital twins, and AI-assisted surrogate models that help reduce reliance on physical prototypes while improving product performance, reliability, and speed to market. We collaborate globally with product engineering teams across automotive, datacom, industrial, medical, aerospace, and consumer product divisions to create next-generation engineering solutions.
What You Will Do
- Lead structural simulation initiatives that support product development across multiple Molex business divisions.
- Develop and deploy surrogate models that predict structural performance metrics such as stress, strain, displacement, and deformation.
- Apply advanced finite element analysis (FEA) methodologies to solve complex engineering challenges involving nonlinear materials, contact mechanics, impact, vibration, fatigue, and creep.
- Drive the adoption of predictive engineering approaches that reduce development cycles and enable virtual product qualification.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to translate design requirements into robust simulation and modeling strategies.
- Establish simulation best practices, validation methodologies, and technical standards that improve engineering quality and consistency.
- Contribute to digital twin initiatives by integrating structural prediction models into broader multiphysics environments.
- Evaluate emerging simulation, optimization,
and AI technologies to enhance organizational capabilities.
- Mentor engineers and strengthen the team's technical expertise in structural mechanics, simulation methodologies, and surrogate modeling techniques.
- Communicate complex technical findings and model limitations effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of experience in structural simulation using commercial FEA software such as Ansys, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, Nastran, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, stress-strain relationships, material behavior, contact mechanics, nonlinear analysis, and finite element methods.
- Demonstrated experience developing and validating surrogate or reduced-order models from simulation datasets.
- Proficiency with programming and automation tools such as Python, MATLAB, or equivalent scripting environments.
- Experience performing simulation correlation and validation using analytical calculations and physical test results.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and global stakeholders.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Applied Mechanics, or a related field.
- Experience with surrogate modeling tools such as Physics AI, DEP MeshWorks, Ansys SimAI, Altair HyperStudy, Siemens HEEDS, Isight, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques including regression models, neural networks, Gaussian process regression, and response surface methodologies.
- Experience with Bayesian methods, uncertainty quantification, or Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs).
- Background in digital twin development and predictive engineering frameworks.
- Experience in drop-test, impact, crashworthiness, fatigue, or reliability-focused simulation programs.
- Exposure to coupled multiphysics simulations including thermo-structural or electro-thermal-structural analysis.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership on complex simulation programs.
