About us
We are a Chai café in Australia.
We opened because cafe in australia as there was a real gap in the market for chai done properly. We now sell over 80,000 cups of chai a year from one store, and we are growing fast — the business is up 19% year on year, with a packaged chai blend launching shortly, a Diwali gifting range, and a second site being scouted.
We are a small, founder-led company. Decisions get made in a day, not a quarter. If you want to see the direct effect of your work on a real business, this is that job.
Why we are hiring
We run five workstreams — SOPs & food costing, customer loyalty, new launches and occasions, our packaged product, and marketing. Each one has an owner. What we do not have is one person who holds the whole picture together.
What you will actually do
Run the operating rhythm
- Own our weekly cycle end to end — collect updates from every stream owner, chase what is missing, prepare the weekly review pack so the founder walks into the meeting already informed
- Keep our Trello boards honest: nothing undated, nothing unowned, nothing quietly stale
- Track every deadline across the business and flag slippage early, not after
Suppliers and sourcing
- Research and shortlist suppliers in India and internationally — packaging, ingredients, equipment, gifting
- Compare quotes properly: landed cost, minimum order, lead time, certification, not just headline price
- Build and hold the supplier comparison sheet. You research and recommend; the founder negotiates and signs
- Chase orders, delivery dates and paperwork so nothing lands late
SOPs and cost control (a strong advantage if you have done this before)
- Help build and maintain our recipe cards and standard operating procedures
- Support the weekly stock count and the food-cost percentage that comes out of it
- Spot where the numbers do not add up and say so
Support the team
- Work alongside our managers — this is a supporting and coordinating role,
not a supervisory one. Your job is to make their jobs easier, remove blockers and keep the plates spinning
- Prepare briefs, research and options so decisions can be made quickly
Who we are looking for
Essential
- 3+ years in hospitality, F&B;, café, QSR, cloud kitchen, hotel or restaurant operations in India. You have worked in or around this industry and you understand how a food business runs day to day
- Excellent written and spoken English. You will be writing briefs, emails and supplier enquiries that represent us
- Genuinely outgoing and comfortable picking up the phone. A big part of this job is talking to people who do not yet know us — suppliers, vendors, partners — and getting an answer
- Organised to the point of being slightly annoying about it. You follow up. You do not let things drop. You remember what you said you would do
- Proactive. We are not going to hand you a task list every morning. You will be expected to work out what needs doing and come to us with it
- Comfortable working remotely with a small overseas team, and confident using Trello, Google Sheets/Drive and WhatsApp
- Reliable internet and a quiet place to work
Advantageous
- Experience with SOPs, standardised recipes, stock counts, or food cost / COGS work
- Experience sourcing suppliers or purchasing
- Experience working with an international client or employer
- Interest in chai, coffee, or Indian food culture
Not required: a degree, or any experience working in Australia.
Hours and time zone
This role works Indian Standard Time — approximately 9:30am to 6:30pm IST, Monday to Friday.
That overlaps with the second half of the Australian trading day, which is deliberate — that is when the work you will be doing actually happens: end-of-day reconciliation, supplier ordering for the morning delivery, reporting, and preparing the next day.
You will have a daily check-in with the founder and one longer weekly review, both inside your normal working hours. We are not asking you to work through the night.
Occasional flexibility around launches and festivals is appreciated and will be planned in advance, never sprung on you.
The engagement
- Independent contractor / freelance engagement, not employment. You invoice us monthly; we pay into your Indian account
- Full-time hours, ongoing, with a 30-day mutual notice period
- ₹22,000-25,000 per month, depending on experience. Paid gross — you manage your own Indian tax and filing as an independent qualified
- Paid monthly, on time, every time.
- Laptop(you need to use your personal) and tools/software provided by us
- We start with a paid two-week trial project so both sides can see whether this works before committing. You get paid for it either way
How to apply
Send us
- Your CV
- A short note — no more than 200 words — answering one question: tell us about a time you sourced something difficult, or fixed a process that was broken. What did you actually do?
- Your notice period / availability and your expected monthly rate in INR
Applications without the note will not be read — we care more about how you think than where you have worked.
Interview process: a 30-minute introductory call, then a longer conversation with the founder and one of our managers, then the paid trial project. We will tell you where you stand at every stage.
Pay: From ₹306,879.43 per year

- Flexible schedule
- Paid sick time
