Summary
We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Scheduler Analyst with strong Control-M expertise to support, manage and optimise complex enterprise batch workloads within a large-scale mainframe environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operational support, workload automation, scheduling design, batch monitoring, and service restoration activities, ensuring critical business processing completes successfully and within agreed service levels.
Key Responsibilities
Mainframe Batch Workload Management
- Provide advanced operational support and scheduling expertise for Mainframe Batch processing and workload automation
- Monitor, manage and support complex Control-M scheduling environments
- Batch Job Failure Management, including workload recovery, dependency management and coordination with application and support teams
- Manage critical batch workloads, proactively identifying scheduling conflicts, dependency issues and SLA risks, working closely with application and support teams to ensure completion
Schedule Administration
- Work with project and application teams to onboard new applications into the enterprise scheduling environment, ensuring adherence to scheduling standards and best practices
- Implement and maintain batch schedules, dependencies, conditions and workflow automation to support business and project requirements
- Review and remove obsolete schedules
- Maintain scheduling standards, calendars, rules and naming conventions
- Define, monitor and maintain critical batch paths and SLA-managed workloads within Control-M, ensuring business-critical processing completes within agreed service levels
Operational and Technical Support
- Release and code deployment support for batch implementations
- JCL support including validation, troubleshooting and implementation assistance
- Mainframe batch workload problem management and vendor escalations
- Support problem management activities by providing batch scheduling expertise, workload analysis and operational input into root cause investigations
- Support disaster recovery testing and major incident activities relating to batch services
- Identify opportunities to improve workload automation, operational efficiency and batch resilience through schedule optimisation and process improvement
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build effective relationships with Business, Application Support, Infrastructure and Operational Teams
- Represent the team at technical and business meetings in a professional and collaborative manner
- Communicate batch status, service impacts and recovery plans clearly to stakeholder.
- Participate in audit, compliance and governance activities as required
Process and Governance
- Follow company ITIL processes, including Change, Incident, Problem and Major Incident Management
- Manage scheduling tools in accordance with company security, compliance and operational policies
- Utilise enterprise tools including ServiceNow, CyberArk, Splunk and monitoring platforms
- Participate in an on-call support rota providing 24x7x365 support for critical batch workloads
Required Skills
- Graduate or equivalent education in a computing-related discipline or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working within a complex enterprise Mainframe environment.
- Proven experience creating, maintaining and troubleshooting Control-M schedules, calendars, dependencies, conditions and resources in a production environment
- Experience working within business-critical production support functions
