IBM Z Integration Engineer /IBM Z Mainframe EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) Engineer

Role Purpose

As an IBM z/OS Integration Engineer, you’ll design, configure, develop and support enterprise integration solutions that connect distributed applications with HSBC’s core services running on IBM z/OS. Using strategic integration middleware and technologies such as DB2,CICS, IBM MQ, COBOL and API-enabled services (z/OS Connect EE or equivalent), you’ll deliver secure, resilient and high-performing integrations that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.

Working as part of a global engineering team, you’ll help evolve HSBC’s integration platforms, troubleshoot complex integration issues, and contribute to modern API-based integration across the mainframe estate.

Key Responsibilities

•

- Design, build and support enterprise integration solutions on IBM z/OS.

•
- Configure and maintain integration middleware supporting business-critical services.

•
- Deliver integrations meeting functional, performance, resilience and security requirements.

•
- Partner with application teams, architects and infrastructure teams to define integrated designs and delivery approaches.

•
- Investigate complex production incidents, perform root-cause analysis and identify long-term improvements.

•
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, solution designs and operational/run procedures.

•
- Support continuous improvement of integration platforms, tooling and engineering standards.

•
- Provide individual contribution as well as support to the wider development team as required.

Required Technical Skills

IBM z/OS &




- Mainframe

•
- Strong development experience using IBM mainframes (z/OS).

•
- Good understanding / hands-on experience with CICS, Db2 and COBOL.

•
- Strong experience designing and developing COBOL applications.

•
- Basic understanding of analysing COBOL programs (reading flows, impact analysis).

•

Experience analysing application flows and troubleshooting complex technical issues on z/OS.

•

Experience using Endevor and/or Changeman (or equivalent source/version management tools).

Integration Technologies

•

- Strong experience with IBM MQ messaging.

•
- Knowledge of API integration technologies, including z/OS Connect EE (or equivalent mainframe API frameworks).

•
- Understanding synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns.

•
- Understanding of REST APIs and enterprise integration principles.

•

Experience implementing secure and resilient integrations between distributed and mainframe applications.

Monitoring, Diagnostics &

- Production Support

•
- Familiar with OMEGAMON for monitoring CICS regions.

•
- Working knowledge of Fault Analyzer and dump reading/analysis (advantage).

•

Experience supporting and resolving integration issues in production environments.

•





- Understanding workload scheduling tools such as TWS is desirable.

•
- Hands-on experience in production support, including handling routine incidents and troubleshooting.

Delivery / Tooling

•
- Robust experience across all areas of the SDLC.

•

Experience using Jira and ServiceNow (SNOW) or equivalent tools.
