About the Role :

We are looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to set up, scale, and maintain the backend infrastructure supporting Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions.

The role will focus on building secure and scalable data ingestion and retrieval pipelines, integrating multiple enterprise data sources into a unified knowledge ecosystem, managing vector database infrastructure, and ensuring appropriate data security and governance.

Over time, the role will expand into broader engineering responsibilities supporting AI/ML and engineering initiatives across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
- Build and manage vector database infrastructure using platforms such as Pinecone, Milvus, or equivalent technologies.
- Develop document indexing and retrieval mechanisms for enterprise RAG applications.
- Integrate document chunking, embedding generation, metadata tagging, and indexing into end-to-end data pipelines.
- Develop and enforce fine-grained access controls to ensure secure and compliant access to enterprise knowledge.
- Implement access-control models such as RBAC and ABAC wherever required.
- Collaborate with domain experts to source, curate, structure, and maintain enterprise knowledge for RAG workflows.
- Monitor and optimise retrieval performance,



latency, relevance, and overall quality across the RAG stack.
- Implement observability, logging, monitoring, and evaluation metrics to measure pipeline health and retrieval quality.
- Work closely with IT and infrastructure teams to deploy and maintain services in a self-hosted environment.
- Follow robust software engineering practices, including Clean Code principles, maintainability, and scalability.
- Support broader ML, Data Engineering, and AI engineering initiatives as the platform evolves.

Job Requirements :

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5 - 8 years of professional experience in Machine Learning Engineering, Data Engineering, MLOps, or related roles.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Experience with Python data manipulation, analysis, and visualisation libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and Seaborn.
- Hands-on experience working with vector databases, embedding techniques, and data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data ingestion, transformation, indexing, and retrieval architectures.
- Familiarity with access-control models such as RBAC and ABAC.
- Understanding of enterprise data governance and security practices.




- Strong understanding of and adherence to Clean Code principles.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Hands-on experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures.
- Experience with AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Knowledge of SQL and relational database design, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar AI orchestration frameworks.
- Exposure to enterprise knowledge-management systems or enterprise search platforms.
- Basic understanding of ISO 27001 principles.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with ML/AI frameworks such as Scikit-learn, Keras, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience deploying and maintaining ML/AI workloads within self-hosted environments.
