Position Summary
We are looking for a strategic and experienced General Manager HR & Global Compliance to lead the human resources, industrial relations and international compliance function of a home textiles manufacturing facility based in the growing Karur export hub. This is a senior, business-critical leadership role reporting directly to the Managing Director / CEO.
You will be responsible for the complete employee lifecycle across corporate staff and the factory workforce (weavers, tailors, checkers, packers and other production roles), while anchoring HR practices that support business growth, statutory compliance under Tamil Nadu labour law, and the social, environmental and security standards expected by international buyers in the US and European markets.
Role & responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities
- Own the HR, IR and compliance strategy for the facility, aligned with business growth and export commitments.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director / CEO on workforce planning, compliance risk and industrial relations climate.
- Build systems, policies and documentation that keep the organisation audit-ready at all times.
International Buyer Compliance & Supply Chain Security
- Maintain accurate and verifiable employment and identity records across the workforce, in line with international requirements on forced and involuntary labour prevention applicable to US and EU buyers.
- Implement and monitor supply chain security protocols covering background checks, physical access control at warehouse/packing areas, and secure cargo handling, in line with recognised frameworks such as C-TPAT.
- Ensure the facility is fully prepared for periodic buyer and third-party social compliance audits (such as BSCI, Sedex and similar frameworks)
and product safety certifications (such as OEKO-TEX).
Environmental Safety & Sustainability Compliance
- Work closely with production leadership to train dyeing and finishing teams on safe chemical handling practices aligned with international chemical regulations (such as REACH) and AZO-free norms.
- Support workforce practices required for sustainability certifications such as GOTS and GRS, including raw material segregation discipline on the shop floor.
- Coordinate workforce training on ERP and traceability tools to support evolving digital compliance requirements in export markets.
Statutory Compliance & Industrial Relations
- Ensure full compliance with applicable labour laws, including the Factories Act, Tamil Nadu Minimum Wages Act, PF, ESIC, Gratuity and POSH regulations.
- Build and maintain functional worker-management grievance redressal mechanisms that support a stable, cooperative production environment.
- Proactively identify and correct high-risk compliance gaps on the shop floor, such as unauthorised overtime, inconsistent record-keeping or inadequate machine guarding.
Talent Management, Recruitment & Payroll Oversight
- Lead recruitment for mid-to-senior corporate roles (merchandisers, textile engineers, designers and similar positions) as well as bulk hiring of factory workers to meet seasonal export timelines.
- Design retention and attendance management initiatives suited to the workforce dynamics typical of the Karur textile cluster.
- Oversee attendance systems and payroll verification processes to ensure accurate and timely wage and overtime payments.
Preferred candidate profile
Required Qualification
- Master's degree in Human Resources (MBA-HR), Master of Social Work (MSW), or a Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Laws.
Required Experience
- 10 to 15 years of core manufacturing HR experience overall.
- At least 3 to 5 years in a senior leadership / General Manager-level HR role, within the textile, apparel or home furnishings export industry serving US/EU markets.
- Demonstrated experience leading the organisation through third-party buyer audits (such as Sedex, BSCI or C-TPAT) is essential.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of the Tamil Nadu industrial climate and textile-sector labour market dynamics.
- Fluency in Tamil for direct worker interaction, combined with strong business English for corporate and buyer communication.
- High attention to detail with an ability to build structured, audit-ready documentation and processes.
- Robust negotiation, stakeholder management and crisis-handling ability, particularly in industrial relations situations.
- Comfortable managing a diverse workforce spanning corporate staff and blue-collar production employees.
Preferred / Desirable Experience
- Hands-on exposure to sustainability certifications such as GOTS, GRS or OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
- Familiarity with digital traceability tools, ERP-based workforce tracking, or emerging requirements such as the EU Digital Product Passport.
- Working knowledge of international forced-labour and supply-chain due-diligence regulations relevant to textile exports to the US and EU.
