About BytebeamBytebeam builds the platform and applications that keep connected devices — and the teams that operate them — online, observable, and manageable at scale. Checkout https://www.bytebeam.io/
About the roleYou will build and own features end to end in our fleet management application: a data-heavy, map-centric product that gives fleet operators a live view of their vehicles — real-time telemetry from CAN and GPS, alerts and driver workflows, and dashboards spanning EV, diesel, and CNG fleets.
This is a senior hands-on engineering role. We are looking for someone who can take ambiguous product requirements, design a maintainable technical approach, ship tested production code, and help raise the quality of the Flutter codebase through reviews, debugging, and steady engineering judgment.
You will work closely with product, design, backend, and QA, and will be expected to own meaningful feature areas rather than only execute well-scoped tickets.
What you'll work on
- Live telemetry dashboards: vehicle status, instrument clusters, alert lifecycles, and threshold-driven indicators across multiple powertrain types.
- Map-based UX: live vehicle tracking, route replay, nearby points of interest, geocoding.
- Honest data presentation — a core product principle: staleness indicators, degraded states, and fallbacks that never show stale or fabricated readings as live.
- High-fidelity UI implementation: translating detailed designs into pixel-accurate, regression-tested Flutter widgets.
- An established, deliberately simple architecture — feature-first modules, lightweight state management, strong test discipline — that you'll work within and help evolve.
Responsibilities
- Own medium-to-large Flutter features from technical design through release, including edge cases, tests, and production follow-up.
- Build and ship production-quality Flutter and Dart code that is maintainable, testable, and easy for the team to extend.
- Make sound technical decisions around state management, data flow, error handling, performance, and UI architecture within the team's existing conventions.
- Write automated tests as part of every change — unit and widget tests, regression tests for every bug fix.
- Review code thoughtfully, identify risks early, and help other engineers improve implementation quality.
- Integrate backend APIs robustly: defensive parsing, error handling, retries, and graceful behavior over unreliable connectivity.
- Debug and fix performance, UI, networking, and platform-specific issues using a methodical approach.
- Participate actively in product and design discussions, clarifying trade-offs and calling out technical constraints early.
- Follow and help improve the team's engineering and AI practices for shipping safely and consistently.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience shipping production Flutter applications.
- Strong understanding of Dart, Flutter widgets, app lifecycle, asynchronous programming, rendering behavior, and at least one common state-management approach.
- Experience owning production mobile features end to end, including technical design, implementation, testing, release, and post-release fixes.
- Genuine commitment to automated testing: you've written widget tests with fakes or injected dependencies, and you see a failing-first regression test as part of a bug fix, not overhead.
- Practical experience integrating real-world APIs: JSON parsing that survives inconsistent responses, error states, retries, and offline-aware behavior.
- Ability to debug methodically — reading stack traces, isolating layout and rebuild issues, profiling jank, and narrowing down platform-specific problems.
- Comfort working within an established architecture and following team conventions, while suggesting improvements through discussion and evidence rather than unilateral rewrites.
- Ability to review others' code constructively and explain trade-offs clearly.
- Clear written and spoken communication.
- Ability to work full-time from our Bangalore office.
Useful experience
- Map-based UIs such as Google Maps SDK or similar: markers, routes, camera control, geocoding, location permissions.
- Device-connected, telematics, IoT, or real-time mobile applications.
- Multi-language apps and Flutter localization workflows (gen-l10n or similar).
- Mobile CI/CD, release workflows, crash reporting, or app monitoring.
- Using AI coding tools productively within a governed workflow, and reviewing their output critically.
- Mentoring engineers or improving engineering practices across a small team.
What we will look for
- Strong hands-on Flutter execution with senior-level ownership and judgment.
- Craft and care in implementation — clean, maintainable choices over quick hacks.
- Ability to break down ambiguous requirements into safe, testable, reviewable increments.
- Ownership of your features end to end, including their tests, bugs, and production behavior.
- Curiosity about the domain: vehicles, telemetry, and the people who operate fleets.
- Receptiveness to review feedback and steady, reliable delivery.
Your first 90 days
- Ship your first features into the fleet app within your first few weeks, following the team's plan → test → implement workflow.
- Take ownership of a feature area, such as a dashboard module or the alerts flow, including its quality, test coverage, and maintainability.
- Contribute meaningful code reviews and help improve the team's Flutter engineering practices.
- Build enough product and domain context to make better technical trade-offs independently.
Hiring process
1. Take-home assignment — a practical Flutter exercise. Use AI or any contemporary tools of your choice; we care about the quality of what you ship and how well you understand it.
2. Assignment discussion + technical round — walk us through your solution and its trade-offs, followed by a deeper technical discussion.
3. Final tech round — a closing round with the engineering team.
