Role Description The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and uninterrupted operation of the factory, manufacturing equipment, utilities and infrastructure.
The role will lead all engineering and maintenance activities, including preventive and predictive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, facility maintenance, electrical systems, HVAC/AC systems, utilities, fire protection systems and statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, implement and monitor preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of manufacturing machinery, utilities and facility infrastructure to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
- Ensure continuous operational readiness of electrical systems, HT/LT panels, DG sets, compressors, HVAC/AC systems, production utilities and other critical equipment.
- Ensure proper maintenance and operational readiness of fire hydrant systems, fire pumps, fire alarms, emergency systems and other fire protection infrastructure.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production and other functions to ensure minimum disruption to manufacturing operations and maximum machine uptime.
- Develop and monitor annual preventive maintenance plans, schedules,
checklists and maintenance standards.
- Ensure timely completion of AMC, servicing, inspection, calibration and statutory testing of equipment and systems.
- Maintain all required ISO, IATF and EHS engineering and maintenance documentation, records and compliance evidence.
- Ensure timely completion and renewal of all applicable licenses, certificates, statutory inspections, mandatory tests and approvals related to engineering, electrical, fire safety, equipment and EHS.
- Support and coordinate compliance requirements related to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, including internal, customer, certification and statutory audits.
- Maintain and periodically review SOPs, work instructions, preventive maintenance records, breakdown reports, inspection reports, checklists and other engineering documentation.
- Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for recurring equipment failures and breakdowns.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs including Machine Availability, MTBF, MTTR, PM Compliance, Breakdown Hours, Maintenance Cost and Utility Performance.
- Identify and implement technical improvements to enhance machine reliability, productivity, energy efficiency, safety and asset life.
- Ensure effective management of maintenance manpower, contractors, vendors, spare parts, critical inventory and maintenance budgets.
- Manage and monitor AMC and service providers, including technical evaluation, service quality, response time and performance.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with EHS requirements, Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and safe work practices.
- Establish appropriate emergency maintenance and contingency arrangements for critical equipment and utilities to minimize production interruptions.
- Lead, train and develop the Engineering & Maintenance team and ensure effective coordination across Production, Quality, EHS, HR, Purchase and other functions.
- Support energy conservation, cost reduction, TPM, Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives across the factory.
- Ensure the factory remains fully equipped, compliant and operationally ready to support production requirements without avoidable interruptions.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
- Strong hands-on experience in engineering, maintenance and facility management within a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive components.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, manufacturing equipment, utilities, HVAC/AC, DG sets, compressors and fire protection systems.
- Proven experience in preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance management.
- Strong knowledge of RCA, CAPA, TPM, Kaizen and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in managing spares, maintenance budgets, AMC, vendors and external service providers.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements and their application to Engineering, Maintenance and EHS.
- Experience in maintaining ISO/IATF/EHS documentation, audit records and compliance evidence.
- Knowledge of statutory inspections, periodic testing, calibration, certification and renewal of applicable licenses and approvals.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, fire safety, PTW, LOTO and emergency preparedness.
- Ability to ensure continuous factory operational readiness and effective downtime management.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to lead, train and motivate maintenance teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, decision-making and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality, EHS, HR, Purchase, suppliers and service providers.
