Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer to design, develop, maintain, and support business intelligence and analytics solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

The role will involve owning the complete Power BI delivery lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data preparation, data modelling, DAX development, dashboard design, deployment, performance optimisation, security, and production support.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, SQL, data modelling, and Power BI Service, along with the ability to work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into accurate, high-performing, and user-friendly analytics solutions.

Exposure to Microsoft Fabric will be a strong advantage as the organisation progressively moves towards the Fabric ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

- Power BI Report &
- Dashboard Development

- Design, develop, publish, and maintain interactive Power BI reports and dashboards based on defined business requirements.
- Create intuitive and user-friendly dashboards aligned with agreed UX standards, reporting requirements, and performance targets.
- Implement advanced Power BI features including bookmarks, drill-throughs, tooltips, field parameters, custom themes, and responsive layouts.
- Ensure dashboards provide accurate, actionable, and business-relevant insights.

- Data Modelling &
- Semantic Layer

- Build robust star-schema-based semantic models using appropriate fact and dimension structures.
- Define relationships, hierarchies, cardinality, and role-playing dimensions within Power BI models.
- Select appropriate storage modes including Import, DirectQuery, Composite, and Direct Lake based on business and technical requirements.
- Optimise model size, relationships, filtering behaviour, and overall model performance.
- Apply dimensional modelling and data warehousing concepts, including slowly changing dimensions and ETL/ELT principles.

- Analytics

- Develop and optimise advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and calculation groups.
- Implement complex analytical requirements including:




- Time intelligence
- YoY, MTD, and YTD analysis

- What-if analysis

- Demonstrate strong understanding of filter context, row context, CALCULATE, iterators, variables, and calculation groups.
- Optimise DAX expressions to improve report responsiveness and model performance.

- Integration

- Build and maintain Power Query / M transformations for data preparation and cleansing.
- Develop complex transformations, merges, appends, custom functions, parameterised queries, and query-folding solutions.
- Implement incremental refresh policies and dataflows where required.
- Integrate data from multiple enterprise and cloud sources, including:
- SQL Server / Azure SQL
- Excel
- SharePoint
- APIs
- SAP
- Oracle
- Cloud data platforms

- Performance Optimisation

- Analyse and resolve performance issues affecting Power BI reports, semantic models, and data refreshes.
- Use tools and techniques such as Power BI Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, VertiPaq Analyzer, and query folding to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Optimise data models, DAX calculations, queries, refresh processes, and report designs to improve overall performance.
- Troubleshoot slow-running reports and refresh failures and identify root causes.

- Governance, Security &
- Deployment

- Implement and test Row-Level Security (RLS) and, where required, Object-Level Security.
- Manage Power BI workspace roles, applications, permissions, sensitivity labels, and deployment pipelines.
- Support Power BI deployment across development, testing, and production environments.
- Configure and manage on-premises data gateways, scheduled refreshes, and dataset lifecycle activities.
- Ensure appropriate governance and security practices are followed across Power BI solutions.

- Business Stakeholder Management &
- Support

- Work closely with business users and stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications.
- Define KPIs, reporting logic, wireframes, and dashboard requirements in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Conduct UAT and validate dashboards against business expectations.
- Provide production support and troubleshoot data quality issues, refresh failures, and reporting discrepancies.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and other technical teams to deliver reliable analytics solutions.

Skills Required

- 3+ years of hands-on experience in developing and delivering production-grade Power BI solutions end to end.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong experience in Business Intelligence, Data Visualisation, Reporting, and Analytics.




- Demonstrable experience delivering Power BI dashboards and solutions used by business stakeholders.
- Solid expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Strong hands-on experience with DAX, Power Query / M, SQL, and data modelling.
- Experience working with enterprise data sources and multiple data platforms.
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and dimensional modelling.
- Experience with Power BI security, workspaces, deployment pipelines, gateways, and scheduled refreshes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Technical Skills

- Strong SQL skills including joins, CTEs, window functions, stored procedures, and query optimisation.
- Understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT, slowly changing dimensions, and dimensional modelling.
- Experience implementing Row-Level Security and workspace/application permission models.
- Experience with Power BI workspaces, applications, deployment pipelines, gateways, and refresh scheduling.
- Experience with Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, VertiPaq Analyzer, and other performance optimisation tools.
- Experience integrating data from SQL Server, Azure SQL, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, SAP, Oracle, and cloud data platforms.

Microsoft Fabric –

- Preferred

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and its core workloads, including:

- Experience building Direct Lake semantic models using Fabric Lakehouse or Warehouse tables.
- Familiarity with Delta / Parquet tables, shortcuts, and Medallion Architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold).
- Understanding of Fabric capacity concepts, governance, domains, workspace administration, capacity monitoring, and deployment pipelines.
- Exposure to Notebooks, PySpark / Spark SQL, Real-Time Intelligence, or Data Activator within Microsoft Fabric.
