About the Role:
Ø We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in Industrial Automation and Special Purpose Machine (SPM) design.
Ø The candidate will work closely with the Applications team during the concept and proposal stage and will be responsible for converting approved concepts into detailed mechanical designs after the order booking.
Ø The role requires a combination of concept development, engineering calculations, component selection, 3D modelling, basic detailing, and manufacturing knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
Ø Develop mechanical concepts for automation machines, fixtures, tooling, material handling systems and SPMs.
Ø Support the Applications team in preparing concept layouts, preliminary designs and technical solutions during RFQ/proposal stages.
Ø Evaluate different design concepts based on budget and customer requirements.
Ø Prepare preliminary BOMs and assist in estimating major mechanical components and bought-out items.
Ø Take ownership of assigned machines/modules from concept through design and execution.
Mechanical Design & Engineering:
Ø Convert approved concepts into detailed mechanical designs.
Ø Perform engineering calculations and sizing of mechanical components.
Ø Select suitable materials based on application, loading, operating conditions and manufacturing process.
Ø Select and integrate standard/bought-out components such as bearings, linear guides, actuators, cylinders, gearboxes, sensors, clamps and other mechanical components.
Ø Apply appropriate engineering standards, tolerances and design practices.
Ø Ensure design accuracy, manufacturability & assembly feasibility.
Ø Participate in design reviews and resolve technical issues if any.
Manufacturing & Assembly Support:
Ø Possess good knowledge of machining, fabrication, sheet-metal fabrication, welding and other manufacturing processes.
Ø Work closely with Manufacturing & assembly teams to resolve design-related issues.
Ø Support machine assembly, debugging and project execution on the shop floor.
Ø Incorporate design modifications based on manufacturing and assembly feedback.
Required Technical Skills:
Ø Robust knowledge of Industrial Automation and Special Purpose Machine design.
Ø Experience in mechanical concept development and machine design.
Ø Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and engineering calculations.
Ø Experience in designing machine structures, mechanisms, fixtures, tooling and sheet-metal components.
Ø Good knowledge of machining, fabrication and manufacturing processes.
Ø Good knowledge of mechanical component sizing and selection.
Ø Working knowledge of GD&T;, fits and tolerances.
Ø Experience in creating detailed part and assembly drawings.
Ø Knowledge of Pneumatics.
Software Skills Preferred:
Ø SolidWorks
Ø AutoCAD
Ø Autodesk Inventor
Candidates with experience in the following areas will be preferred:
Ø Special Purpose Machines (SPMs)
Ø Robotic cells
Ø Assembly automation
Ø Material handling systems
Ø Pick-and-place mechanisms
