We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Governance Specialist to support the design, implementation, and day-to-day management of enterprise data governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring 4+ years of hands-on experience in data governance, metadata management, data quality, and compliance, and will work closely with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to embed governance best practices across the organization.
Responsibilities
Data Governance Framework & Policy
- Support the implementation and maintenance of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including policies, standards, and role definitions.
- Assist in defining data classification, retention schedules, and lifecycle management guidelines.
- Participate in governance councils and cross-functional working groups, preparing documentation and tracking action items.
- Apply privacy-by-design principles to data handling processes and workflows.
Metadata Management & Data Cataloguing
- Support the deployment and ongoing administration of enterprise metadata and cataloguing tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Informatica, or Alation).
- Maintain and enforce metadata standards covering technical, business, and operational metadata.
- Monitor and update data lineage across ingestion, transformation, analytics, and consumption layers.
- Ensure metadata accuracy, completeness, and currency across all data environments.
Data Quality Management
- Define and implement data quality rules, thresholds, and monitoring processes aligned to enterprise standards.
- Maintain data quality scorecards and dashboards to track accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and consistency.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for data quality issues and coordinate remediation with data owners and engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement in data quality across business domains.
Data Access, Privacy & Compliance
- Implement and monitor data access governance policies, including access approvals and segregation of duties.
- Ensure data sensitivity tagging and privacy constraints are consistently applied across all data domains.
- Collaborate with security, privacy, and legal teams to ensure compliant data handling practices.
- Support internal and external audits, compliance reviews, and risk assessments.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Enablement
- Serve as a point of contact for governance queries from data engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders.
- Participate in governance training, workshops, and awareness programs to promote data literacy across teams.
- Contribute to the development of governance playbooks, SOPs, and onboarding documentation for new data domains.
- Provide knowledge transfer support to internal teams on governance tools, workflows, and best practices.
Key Skills & Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data stewardship roles.
- Solid understanding of metadata management, data lineage, data cataloguing, and data quality frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with at least one data governance platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Informatica IDMC, or Alation).
- Working knowledge of data management best practices and frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, CDMC, or ISO standards.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations, data classification, retention policies, and compliance requirements.
- Experience collaborating across multi-team or multi-domain data ecosystems.
- Solid analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications:
- CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) — DAMA International
- DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model) Certification
- Certifications in metadata management platforms (Purview, Informatica, or Alation)
- CIPP or equivalent data privacy certification (advantageous)
Must be willing to travel onsite to client locations as required (UAE and other regions if needed). THIS IS A MUST.
