Cambridge Middle & Secondary Curriculum Coordinator
Grades 6–10 ·Reports to: Principal / Vice Principal (Academics)
Role Purpose
Own Cambridge International curriculum delivery for Grades 6–10 end to end: curriculum planning, pacing and quality; the professional growth of teaching staff; and the pastoral wellbeing of every student in the phase. This role does not hold exam-administration or regulatory authority — entries, invigilation, access arrangements and malpractice sit with the Exams Officer, a separate peer role, so the person who leads and evaluates the teaching team is never also the person certifying exam-integrity for that same team's students.
What Great Looks Like in Year One
- 100% syllabus coverage tracked to plan each term across Grades 6–10, with vertical alignment visibly closing gaps from Grade 6 through the IGCSE board year.
- Observation and CPD targets met for every teacher in the phase, and measurable, year-on-year improvement in benchmark performance (ASSET/NGRT/NGMT)
- Heads of Department running confident, well-mentored subject teams; parents experiencing clear, timely communication on academics and pastoral matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum ownership: plan, pace and quality-assure Cambridge delivery across Grades 6–10; lead vertical alignment and syllabus/textbook transitions.
- Assessment calendar & question-paper quality:
set the academic calendar with the Exams Officer; own paper quality against blueprint, cognitive balance and command-word conventions (HOD sign-off before handoff for administration).
- Teaching quality assurance: classroom observations, learning walks, lesson-plan review, CPD design, and HOD mentoring.
- Pastoral care: first point of escalation for welfare/behavioural matters; oversee IEP implementation with Counsellor/SEN Coordinator; safeguard and anti-bullying policy in the phase.
- Staff leadership: functional supervision of HODs and Class Teachers; contribute to appraisal, recruitment and onboarding.
- Parent & community engagement: key contact for Grades 6–10 academic/pastoral matters; lead PTMs, orientations and student-led conferences.
Person Specification
Essential: Postgraduate degree in Education or relevant discipline plus a recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed. or equivalent); 5–7 years teaching including 3+ years in academic leadership/coordination; experience teaching within Cambridge International curriculum; robust instructional-leadership, observation and data-analysis skills; clear grounding in child safeguarding and pastoral practice.
Desirable: Leadership/management qualification; experience mentoring HODs and with competency-based frameworks; familiarity with NCF-SE 2023 and school ERP systems.
