Position Overview
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Location: The Sarayu in Ayodhya The Assistant Manager - Engineering is responsible for maintaining the operational readiness, safety, reliability and presentation of all engineering systems, equipment and facilities within the assigned area of Sarayu Club. Accountable for preventive maintenance compliance, breakdown response, equipment uptime, energy efficiency, safety compliance and timely closure of engineering work orders in accordance with The Leela standards.
Role:
- Act as a multi-skilled engineering resource responsible for maintaining uninterrupted operation of Club facilities and engineering services.
- Ensure all assigned areas,
equipment and systems remain safe, functional, clean and operationally ready.
- Delivering timely engineering support to F&B;, Housekeeping, Recreation, Fitness, Wellness, Events and Member Services.
- Identify potential equipment failures before they affect members, operations or safety.
- Maintain professional interaction with members and employees while attending engineering complaints.
- Support the Engineering team in achieving high equipment reliability, energy efficiency and preventive maintenance standards.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining assigned electrical, HVAC, plumbing, civil, mechanical and other engineering systems within the limits of technical competency.
- Execute maintenance activities strictly as per approved SOPs, preventive maintenance schedules, safety procedures and statutory requirements.
- Ensure all guest/member-facing engineering issues are attended to promptly and without compromising safety or service standards.
- Attend and troubleshoot routine engineering breakdowns within assigned competency.
- Prioritize maintenance calls based on safety, operational criticality and member impact.
- Replace approved spare parts and consumables within authorized maintenance procedures.
- Record maintenance activities, readings, breakdowns and spare consumption in the prescribed logbook/system.
- Recommend replacement or repair of defective equipment based on observed condition.
- Stop unsafe work or operation of defective equipment and immediately escalate the matter to the Engineering Supervisor/Manager.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Operations & Maintenance
- Attend all assigned engineering complaints and breakdown calls promptly.
- Complete 100% of assigned preventive maintenance tasks within the scheduled period.
- Conduct daily inspection of assigned equipment, plant rooms and service areas.
- Monitor and record electrical, HVAC, water, temperature, pressure and other relevant operating parameters.
- Respond to critical breakdown calls immediately and provide first-level troubleshooting.
- Maintain minimum 95% closure of routine maintenance work orders within the prescribed SLA.
- Ensure all critical engineering complaints are attended to within 10 minutes of receipt and escalated immediately where specialist intervention is required.
- Conduct regular inspection of AHUs, FCUs, pumps, motors, electrical panels, lighting, plumbing fixtures, water systems and other assigned equipment.
- Carry out minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, civil, mechanical and HVAC repair works within competency.
- Support planned preventive maintenance of major engineering equipment.
- Maintain accurate daily engineering logbooks, equipment readings and breakdown records.
- Maintain engineering workshops, tool rooms and plant rooms in a clean and organized condition.
- Key Account Management
Responsibility
- Maintain maximum availability and reliability of assigned engineering systems.
- Achieve 100% completion of assigned PM schedules within the defined timeline.
- Ensure timely attendance and restoration of equipment within defined SLA.
- Ensure zero avoidable safety violations arising from maintenance activities.
- Ensure accurate recording and timely closure of assigned engineering jobs.
- Identify and report abnormal electricity, water, HVAC and utility consumption.
- Prevent avoidable damage to equipment, tools, engineering assets and facilities.
- Ensure engineering issues in member-facing areas are resolved with minimum disruption.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment readings and shift handovers.
Accountability
- 100% preventive maintenance compliance for assigned equipment and areas.
- Zero repeat breakdowns caused by avoidable maintenance errors or incomplete rectification.
- Accurate maintenance records with 100% documentation of breakdowns, repairs and spare consumption.
- Reduction in repeat engineering complaints and equipment downtime through proactive maintenance.
Empowerment
- Attend and resolve routine engineering breakdowns within approved technical competency.
- Isolate defective equipment where continued operation may create a safety or equipment risk.
- Recommend preventive action where recurring breakdowns or equipment deterioration are identified.
- Empowered to decline unsafe work and report the risk to the Engineering Supervisor/Manager.
Qualifications
Education:
- ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electrical & Electronics, Plumbing, Civil Maintenance, or a related Engineering trade.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, preventive maintenance practices, and statutory compliance requirements.
- 2-5 years of experience in hospitality, commercial facilities, clubs, residential developments, or similar engineering maintenance environments.
- Experience in handling electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and building maintenance systems.
- Experience in preventive maintenance programs, breakdown maintenance, and engineering work order management.
