The Mastercam Programmer translates 2D drawings and 3D CAD models into highly optimized G-code. This role is responsible for selecting tools, calculating speeds and feeds, and verifying toolpaths to maximize efficiency on VMC and CNC machines. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Core Responsibilities:
- Import and clean up 3D CAD models from SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar software.
- Create efficient 2D, 3D, and multi-axis toolpaths using Mastercam.
- Apply Mastercam Dynamic Motion technology to reduce cycle times and extend tool life.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, fixtures, and cutting parameters based on material types.
- Perform digital machine simulation to detect and eliminate collisions before production.
- Generate and edit G-code/M-code using appropriate post-processors for specific machine controllers.
- Create detailed Setup Sheets (tool lists, zero points, fixture locations) for shop floor operators. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Key Requirements:
- 2–5+ years of dedicated experience using Mastercam software.
- Robust understanding of GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
- Deep knowledge of speeds, feeds,

2. VMC Setter / Machinist (Vertical Machining Center)
Job Summary:
The VMC Setter takes the Mastercam program and prepares the vertical machining center for production. This role bridges the gap between digital programming and physical machining, focusing on heavy milling, profiling, and complex pocketing setups. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret Mastercam setup sheets to understand part orientation and tool layouts.
- Set up physical workholding devices including vices, custom fixtures, and modular clamps on the VMC table.
- Load cutting tools into the tool carousel and set accurate tool length and diameter offsets using probes or pre-setters.
- Establish the Work Coordinate System (WCS) (G54, G55, etc.) on the raw material block.
- Load the G-code program into the machine controller (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, Mazak, etc.).
- Run the "First Piece" (First Article), verify its dimensions using precision instruments, and adjust offsets to achieve required tolerances. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
