Job Description – Civil EngineerPosition: Civil Engineer – Interior & Renovation Projects

Department: Projects / Execution

Reports To: Project Manager / Proprietor

Location: Project Sites

Employment Type: Full Time

1. Job PurposeThe Civil Engineer will be responsible for the planning, execution, supervision and quality control of civil and interior renovation works at project sites.

The Engineer will ensure that works are executed as per approved drawings, BOQ, specifications, quality standards and project schedule while maintaining proper control over manpower, materials, measurements, wastage and project costs.

- 2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Site ExecutionSupervise day-to-day execution of civil and interior works.
- Understand drawings, BOQ items and specifications before execution.
- Set out and mark works at site.
- Coordinate execution of:
-

- Civil works
- Brick/block work
- Plaster
- Flooring and tiling
- False ceiling
- Painting
- Doors and partitions
- Waterproofing
- Plumbing-related civil works
- Electrical-related civil works
- Carpentry/interior works
- Ensure proper sequence of activities to avoid rework.
- Check dimensions, levels, alignment and finishing.
- Identify site problems and resolve them in consultation with seniors.
- B. Manpower ManagementPlan manpower requirements for daily activities.
- Allocate workers according to priority and productivity.
- Monitor labour attendance and productivity.
- Ensure that sufficient manpower is available for planned activities.
- Report labour shortages or poor productivity immediately.
- Maintain daily manpower records.
- C. Material ManagementPrepare material requirements based on upcoming activities.
- Coordinate with the office/procurement team for timely material availability.
- Check quantity and quality of materials received at site.
- Maintain proper material consumption records.
- Minimize material wastage and theft.
- Ensure materials are stored properly.
- D. Measurement & Quantity ControlTake accurate site measurements of completed works.
- Maintain item-wise measurement records.
- Verify quantities against BOQ/drawings.
- Prepare measurement sheets for billing.
- Identify variations, extra items and omitted works.
- Inform management before executing significant extra/variation work.
- Maintain records of work completed against BOQ quantities.

E. BOQ & Cost ControlThe Engineer shall understand the commercial implications of site execution.





- Compare actual site quantities with BOQ quantities.
- Monitor material consumption against estimated consumption.
- Identify excessive wastage.
- Track productivity of labour.
- Report activities where actual cost may exceed the estimated cost.
- Avoid unauthorized extra work.
- Assist in preparing rate analysis for extra/non-BOQ items.
- Maintain item-wise progress and cost information.
- F. Quality ControlEnsure work is executed according to approved specifications.
- Check quality of workmanship.
- Ensure correct material and approved makes are used.
- Conduct regular site inspections.
- Identify defective work and ensure rectification.
- Maintain photographs of important stages of work.
- Ensure proper protection of completed works.
- G. Planning & ProgressPrepare daily and weekly work plans.
- Track progress against project schedule.
- Identify activities falling behind schedule.
- Coordinate different trades to prevent work clashes.
- Prepare daily progress reports.
- Provide advance information regarding manpower, material and equipment requirements.
- H. Billing & DocumentationPrepare measurements for client billing.
- Assist in preparation of RA bills/final bills.
- Verify subcontractor/labour bills against actual work.
- Maintain measurement books/site measurement sheets.
- Maintain daily progress reports.
- Maintain material receipt and consumption records.
- Maintain site photographs and work records.
- Maintain records of approved drawings and instructions.

I. CoordinationCoordinate with:

- Client
- Architect
- Interior designer
- PMC/consultant
- Electrical team
- Plumbing team
- HVAC team
- Vendors
- Subcontractors
- Labour contractors

Ensure that information received from the client/consultant is properly communicated to the execution team.

3. Daily ResponsibilitiesThe Engineer is expected to:

1. Visit and inspect the site.
2. Check the previous day's progress.
3. Prepare the day's work plan.
4. Allocate manpower.
5. Check availability of materials.
6. Supervise ongoing activities.
7. Check quality and dimensions.
8. Record measurements.
9.



Take progress photographs where required.
10. Update management regarding progress/issues.
11. Prepare the next day's material and manpower requirement.

- 4. Required SkillsGood understanding of civil construction and interior works.
- Ability to read drawings and BOQs.
- Good knowledge of measurements and quantity calculations.
- Basic knowledge of rate analysis.
- Good knowledge of construction materials.
- Ability to manage labour and subcontractors.
- Positive communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to use MS Excel.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
- Ability to prepare daily progress reports.
- Strong site supervision and problem-solving ability.

5. Qualification & ExperienceQualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Civil Engineering.

Experience:

Preferably 2–5 years of experience in civil, interior, renovation or fit-out projects.

Candidates with strong site execution experience may also be considered irrespective of company/project background.

6. Performance Parameters / KPIsThe Engineer's performance will primarily be evaluated on:

- Completion of work within planned timelines.
- Labour productivity.
- Material wastage control.
- Accuracy of measurements.
- Quality of workmanship.
- Reduction in rework.
- Accuracy of BOQ quantity tracking.
- Timely identification of variations.
- Timely submission of site reports.
- Proper material planning.
- Site discipline and safety.
- Client/consultant satisfaction.

7. Important ResponsibilityThe Civil Engineer is not merely a site supervisor.

The Engineer is expected to take ownership of the project from planning → procurement requirement → execution → measurement → quality → progress → billing → handover.

Any foreseeable issue relating to cost, delay, quality, manpower or material availability must be reported to management before it becomes a major problem.

8. Preferred CandidateA candidate who is:

- Practical rather than purely theoretical.
- Comfortable working at site.
- Good at measurements and Excel.
- Able to control workers and subcontractors.
- Commercially aware.
- Honest with measurements and material records.
- Proactive in identifying problems.
- Capable of independently handling a small-to-medium interior/renovation project.

Primary Objective:

To ensure that every assigned project is completed on time, within the approved cost, with proper quality and minimum rework/wastage.
