SAP DMS Consultant

Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced SAP Document Management System (DMS) Consultant to support SAP S/4HANA implementation and rollout projects. The consultant will be responsible for designing, configuring, integrating, testing, deploying, and supporting SAP DMS solutions across relevant business functions.
The role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, SAP functional consultants, technical/ABAP teams, integration teams, and end users to ensure effective document lifecycle management, storage, retrieval, version control, and integration with SAP business objects.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct requirement-gathering sessions and Fit-to-Standard workshops for SAP DMS processes.
Design, configure, and deploy SAP DMS solutions within SAP S/4HANA.
Configure and manage SAP DMS components, including:
o Document Types
o Document Info Records (DIR)
o Document Statuses and Status Networks
o Document Number Ranges
o Object Links
o Document Originals
o Authorization Groups
o Classification and document attributes
Configure DMS integration with SAP business objects, including:
o Material Master
o Equipment
o Functional Locations
o Bills of Material (BOMs)
o Production and Process Orders
o Purchase Orders
o Projects and WBS Elements
Support integration of SAP DMS with SAP PLM, MM, PP, PM/EAM, PS, and other relevant SAP S/4HANA modules.
Work with SAP Content Server and external content repository solutions for document storage, retrieval, and archival.
Configure and support document lifecycle processes, including version control, approval workflows, status management, and document release processes.




Prepare functional specifications for DMS-related enhancements, workflows, reports, interfaces, and forms.
Coordinate with ABAP and integration teams for custom developments, interfaces, and issue resolution.
Support migration of documents from legacy applications and shared repositories into SAP DMS.
Define document migration templates, mapping rules, validation criteria, reconciliation processes, and mass-upload approaches.
Prepare configuration documents, functional design specifications, test scripts, user guides, and training materials.
Execute unit testing and provide support during SIT, UAT, cutover, go-live, and hypercare phases.
Troubleshoot issues related to DMS configuration, document storage, object links, authorizations, and system integrations.
Assist business users and key users during training, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
Required Skills and Experience
5+ years of hands-on experience in SAP DMS.
Experience in at least two end-to-end SAP implementation or rollout projects, preferably in SAP S/4HANA environments.
Strong hands-on expertise in SAP DMS configuration.
Solid understanding of:

o Status and Status Networks
o Version Management
o Object Links
o Classification
o Document Originals
o Authorization Management
Experience working with SAP Content Server or comparable external content repository solutions.




Good understanding of SAP DMS integration with SAP PLM, MM, PP, PM/EAM, PS, and other S/4HANA modules.
Experience in document migration, data mapping, validation, reconciliation, and mass upload activities.
Ability to create detailed functional specifications and work effectively with ABAP and integration teams.
Experience supporting SIT, UAT, cutover, go-live, and post-go-live support activities.
Good understanding of SAP Activate methodology and the SAP implementation lifecycle.
Robust analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with SAP S/4HANA Private/Public Cloud Edition.
Experience of SAP Fiori applications related to document management.
Experience with SAP Engineering Change Management (ECM) and SAP PLM processes.
Experience integrating SAP DMS with external engineering or enterprise document management systems.
Understanding of SAP S/4HANA Clean Core principles and extensibility approaches.
Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or asset-intensive industries.
