Welding Engineer -
Job Title: Welding Engineer
Job Summary: A Welding Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, supervising, and improving welding processes to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of fabrication and construction activities. They ensure compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and quality requirements in manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, power, and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Records (WQTR/WPQ).
- Monitor and control welding activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards (ASME, AWS, API, ISO, EN, etc.).
- Provide technical support and guidance to welders, supervisors, inspectors, and project teams.
- Evaluate welding techniques, materials, consumables, and equipment for suitability and efficiency.
- Investigate welding defects, failures, and non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Quality Control (QC), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and production teams.
- Review engineering drawings, material specifications, and fabrication requirements.
- Ensure proper implementation of welding procedures and heat treatment requirements.
- Conduct welding procedure qualification tests and welder performance qualification tests.
- Monitor productivity, welding parameters, consumable usage, and project schedules.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, welding documentation, and inspection records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
- Skilled certifications such as
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) (preferred)
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) (preferred)
- CSWIP 3.1/3.2 (advantageous)
- Knowledge of international codes and standards:
- ASME Section IX
- ASME B31.3/B31.1
- AWS D1.1
- API 1104
- ISO 3834
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of welding processes:
- SMAW
- GTAW (TIG)
- GMAW (MIG)
- FCAW
- SAW
- Understanding of metallurgy and heat treatment.
- Knowledge of NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and welding management/documentation systems.
Experience Requirements
- 5-10+ years of experience in welding engineering, fabrication, construction, or oil & gas projects.
- Experience in pressure vessels, pipelines, structural steel, tanks, or process piping projects.
- Familiarity with EPC projects and quality management systems.

- Welding rejection/repair rate.
- Productivity and welding efficiency.
- Compliance with project quality requirements.
- Number of qualified welders and procedures.
- Safety performance and incident reduction.
- On-time completion of welding activities.
Reporting Structure Reports To: QA/QC Manager, Fabrication Manager, Construction Manager, or Project Manager
Supervises: Welding Supervisors, Welders, Welding Technicians, and Welding Inspectors (as applicable).
