VMC Programmer –

Department: Production / Tool Room / CNC Machining

Experience: 2–6+ years

Qualification: ITI / Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Job Summary

Responsible for developing, modifying, setting, and optimizing CNC programs for Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to achieve required quality, productivity, dimensional accuracy, and cycle time.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop CNC/VMC programs for 3-axis, 4-axis and, where applicable, 5-axis machines.
- Create and modify programs using Mastercam, NX, SolidCAM, TopSolid, Fusion 360 or similar CAM software.
- Read and interpret 2D/3D engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T;.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, fixtures, work-holding methods, feeds and speeds.
- Generate tool paths, tool lists, setup sheets and machining process documentation.
- Perform program simulation, prove-out and first-piece validation.
- Set machine offsets and support machine setup and trial production.
- Optimize programs to reduce cycle time, tool consumption, rejection and machining cost.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, fixture and machining problems during production.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers and gauges.




- Maintain CNC program records, setup sheets and revision history.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Tool Room and Engineering teams.
- Follow 5S, safety, ISO/QMS and production procedures.

Required Skills
- Strong VMC programming and machining knowledge.
- Fanuc / Siemens / Mitsubishi controller knowledge.
- G-code and M-code knowledge.
- CAD/CAM programming experience.
- Good understanding of cutting tools and machining parameters.
- Strong engineering drawing and GD&T; interpretation.
- Knowledge of work holding, fixtures and tool offsets.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Experience
- Precision components / automotive / tool & die / mould manufacturing.
- Experience with 3-axis and 4-axis VMCs.
- Mastercam, NX, SolidCAM or TopSolid experience.
- Experience in cycle-time and process optimization.
