Job Title: Senior Tool Designer Precision Engineering & NPD
Location: Medchal
Duration: Full Time
Job Purpose: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Tools & Injection Mold Designer to lead the design and development of precision tooling and injection molds for complex engineering components. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in Current Product Development (NPD), driving innovation in mold design, tooling efficiency, and manufacturability for automotive, rail, and industrial applications.
Reports To: Tool Room Manager / NPD Head
Key Responsibilities:
Tool & Mold Design
- Design hot forming dies, bending tools, and progressive dies for AHSS, boron steel, and alloyed components
- Design high-precision injection molds, progressive dies, and custom tooling for polymer and metal components
- Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software
- Ensure mold designs support optimal flow, cooling, ejection, and cycle time efficiency
DFM & Mold Flow Analysis
- Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and mold flow simulations using tools like Moldex3D or Autodesk Moldflow
- Optimize gate locations, runner systems, and cooling channels to minimize defects and warpage
Material & Process Integration
- Select appropriate mold materials (e.g., P20, H13, S7) based on part geometry, production volume, and thermal requirements
- Collaborate with polymer specialists to align mold design with material shrinkage, flow behavior, and post-processing needs
Tool Validation & Trials
- Support mold trials, tool debugging, and dimensional validation during first-off and pilot runs
- Work closely with the tool room and production teams to ensure smooth handover and ramp-up
Documentation & Standards
- Prepare detailed BOMs, mold maintenance guides, and design validation reports
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, TS16949,IATF,VDA) and internal quality protocols
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Explore advanced mold technologies such as conformal cooling, multi-cavity layouts, and quick-change inserts
- Drive cost reduction and cycle time improvements through design innovation
- Experience with direct and indirect hot stamping methods Familiarity with segmented tooling (heated/cooled zones) for multi-phase forming
- Ability to interpret TTT and CCT diagrams for phase control
- Hands-on exposure to die trials, thermal distortion analysis, and press commissioning
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, or equivalent
Experience Required:
- 8+ years of experience in tool design / mold design / die design
Industry: Experience in automotive, rail, or heavy engineering industries preferred
