: Senior Executive - Direct Tax
Location: Yelahanka, Bangalore
About the gig The Direct Tax Manager will be responsible for managing the organisation's end-to-end direct tax function, including corporate income tax compliance, advance tax, TDS/TCS, tax audit, transfer pricing, assessments, litigation support, tax provisioning and tax-related MIS. The role will work closely with the Finance team, statutory auditors, tax consultants and senior management to ensure timely compliance, effective tax risk management, accurate tax provisioning and optimisation of the organisation's direct tax position.
What you’ll do
A. Corporate Income Tax Compliance
- Manage end-to-end corporate income tax compliance for the organisation.
- Prepare/review annual computation of taxable income and Income Tax Return – ITR-6.
- Review tax positions relating to business income, disallowances, deductions, depreciation, provisions, employee benefits and other tax-sensitive transactions.
- Ensure timely filing of income tax returns and other applicable statutory forms.
- Review reconciliation between books of accounts, tax computation, Form 26AS, AIS/TIS and other tax information.
- Identify tax exposures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation supporting tax positions taken in the income tax return.
B. Advance Tax & Tax Forecasting
- Prepare and review quarterly advance tax computations based on actual financial performance and forecasted profitability.
- Coordinate with FP&A;/Finance teams for business forecasts and tax projections.
- Analyse current tax liability and effective tax rate.
- Monitor advance tax payments and ensure timely compliance.
- Provide tax forecasts and updates to the Finance Head.
C. TDS / TCS Compliance
- Oversee end-to-end TDS/TCS compliance across the organisation.
- Review applicability of TDS provisions under the Income Tax Act for vendor, professional, contractual, commission, rent, interest and other payments.
- Ensure timely deduction, deposit and reconciliation of TDS/TCS.
- Review and oversee quarterly TDS returns:
o Form 24Q o Form 26Q o Form 27Q o Other applicable statements
- Ensure timely issuance and accuracy of:
o Form 16
o Form 16A o TDS certificates and other statutory documents
- Monitor TDS defaults, notices, interest and late filing implications.
- Reconcile TDS ledgers with Form 26AS/AIS and accounting records.
- Provide guidance to AP, Payroll, Procurement and Finance teams on TDS applicability.
D. Tax Audit & Form 3CD
- Coordinate with statutory/tax auditors for completion of Tax Audit under Section 44AB.
- Prepare/review information and schedules required for Form 3CD.
- Ensure reconciliation between financial statements, tax computation and tax audit reporting.
- Identify tax audit reporting implications arising from new transactions, accounting policies and business arrangements.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and auditors for timely closure of tax audit observations.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and supporting evidence for tax audit disclosures.
E. Tax Provisioning & Month-End/Quarter-End Closure
- Prepare/review monthly and quarterly current tax and deferred tax provisions.
- Ensure accurate tax provision in the P&L; and balance sheet.
- Ensure proper accounting of tax provisions, advance tax, TDS receivables/payables and tax- related balances.
- Support year-end financial statement closure and statutory audit.
F. Income Tax Assessments & Notices
- Manage and coordinate responses to income tax notices and departmental communications.
- Review notices received under various provisions of the Income Tax Act.
- Prepare/review responses, submissions and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants for complex assessments.
- Maintain an updated tracker of:
o Assessments o Notices o Demand o Refunds o Appeals o Outstanding tax matters
- Monitor timelines and ensure that statutory response deadlines are not missed.
G. Tax Litigation & Appeals
- Coordinate tax litigation matters before:
o Assessing Officer o CIT(A)
- Work with external tax consultants and legal advisors on tax appeals.
- Provide business and financial information required for litigation matters.
- Review draft submissions and grounds of appeal.
- Track litigation exposure and potential financial impact.
- Maintain a comprehensive tax litigation and contingent liability register.
H. Regulatory Updates & Tax Research
- Track amendments to:
o Income Tax Act o Finance Act o Income Tax Rules o CBDT circulars and notifications o Judicial precedents o Relevant regulatory updates
- Analyse the impact of tax amendments on the organisation.
- Communicate relevant changes to stakeholders.
- Update internal SOPs, tax processes and compliance checklists based on regulatory changes.
- Conduct periodic tax health checks to identify potential compliance gaps.
I. Consultants, Auditors & Regulatory Liaison
- Act as the primary point of contact for direct tax consultants and advisors.
- Coordinate with statutory auditors, tax auditors and internal auditors.
- Manage information requests and deliverables from external consultants.
- Review professional advice and assess applicability to the organisation.
- Liaise with income tax authorities, wherever required.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations and tax compliance matters.
J. Tax MIS & Management Reporting
Prepare and present periodic direct tax MIS covering:
- Current tax liability
- Deferred tax position
- TDS/TCS compliance status
- Tax provisions
- Tax demands and refunds
- Assessment status
- Litigation exposure
- Contingent liabilities
- Tax notices
- Tax audit status
- Key tax risks and potential exposures
Provide periodic tax dashboards and management updates to the Finance Head.
What you bring
Educational Qualification
- Chartered Accountant (CA) – preferred.
- Semi-Qualified CA / CA Inter with strong and relevant direct tax experience may also be considered.
- Additional qualifications in taxation or law will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5–6 years of relevant post-qualification / professional experience in Direct Taxation.
- Strong experience in corporate income tax compliance and tax litigation/assessment matters.
Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of the Income Tax Act, 1961/ 2025 and Income Tax Rules.
- Strong understanding of corporate taxation and tax computation.
- Hands-on knowledge of:
o ITR-6
o Advance Tax o TDS/TCS o Forms 24Q, 26Q and 27Q o Form 3CD o Form 3CEB o Tax assessments o Appeals and litigation
- Valuable understanding of Ind AS 12 – Income Taxes.
- Strong understanding of tax accounting and provisioning.
- Familiarity with tax litigation and departmental proceedings.
- Ability to interpret Finance Act amendments, CBDT circulars, notifications and judicial decisions.
- Good understanding of tax implications of business transactions and commercial contracts.
Systems & Tools
- Proficiency in Infor/ SAP / Oracle / other ERP systems.
- Strong Excel skills, including tax computation and reconciliation models.
- Working knowledge of income tax e-filing portal and relevant tax filing utilities.
