Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will build and scale platform services powering search, reporting, integrations, AI workflows, and operational systems at production scale. You will work at the intersection of distributed backend architecture and AI/agent-driven workflows, ensuring high reliability, observability, and performance across platform services. This role requires deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, a strong system design mindset, and the ability to drive backend engineering excellence across a fast-moving, startup-style team.

What You Will Do

- Architect Develop: Design and build scalable backend services and platform capabilities using Ruby on Rails, with a focus on reliability and long-term maintainability.

- API Async Engineering: Develop robust RESTful APIs and asynchronous workflows that power integrations, reporting pipelines, and AI-driven features.

- Search Data Infrastructure: Work on search infrastructure (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch), databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL), and caching layers to support high-throughput platform needs.

- AI Workflow Orchestration: Contribute to AI-driven workflows, LLM integrations, and agent-based automation using tools like Argo Workflows and Python-based pipelines.

- Production Reliability: Improve system observability, debug and resolve production incidents,



and drive platform performance improvements across services and infrastructure.

- Infrastructure DevOps: Work with Kubernetes, Docker, and messaging systems (Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ) to maintain and scale production-grade distributed systems.

- Technical Collaboration: Contribute to architecture discussions, system design decisions, and engineering best practices across the backend team.

What Were Looking For

- 4-5 years of backend engineering experience with a track record on scalable production systems.

- Ruby on Rails Proficiency: Robust hands-on expertise in Ruby and Rails - APIs, background jobs, and large-scale application design.

- System Design Fundamentals: Solid understanding of distributed systems, database design, caching strategies, and async processing patterns.

- Infrastructure Fluency: Practical experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and production infrastructure management.

- Search Messaging: Familiarity with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and message brokers like Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ is a strong plus.

- AI Automation Exposure: Experience with Python, LLMs, AI agents, or workflow automation tools (Argo Workflows) is highly desirable.

- Debugging Ownership: Strong problem-solving skills with a bias for ownership, independent execution, and fast iteration.
