Job Purpose To lead product management and product costing for the Auto and Special Application Business Unit driving profitable product portfolio decisions, robust cost structures, and competitive pricing strategies. The role owns the interface between engineering, sales, sourcing and finance to ensure new and existing products meet margin, quality and market-fit objectives across automotive OEM and special/industrial application segments.

Key Responsibilities

- Product Strategy & Portfolio Management

Define and drive the product roadmap for the Auto and Special application business unit in line with automotive and special application market trends, customer requirements and business growth targets. Conduct portfolio analysis (product lifecycle, profitability, market share) and recommend additions, rationalization or repositioning of products.

Partner with Sales, Marketing and R&D; to identify recent product opportunities, platform extensions and value-engineering initiatives.

- Product Costing & Margin Management

Own end-to-end product costing (raw material, process, conversion, overheads) for new product development (NPD) and existing SKUs. Build and maintain should-cost models and standard costing sheets; benchmark against competitor and industry cost structures.





Drive cost-reduction and value-engineering/value-analysis (VE/VA) programs in coordination with Sourcing, Manufacturing and Design teams.

Support pricing strategy and quotations for OEM/customer RFQs with accurate costing and margin analysis.

- Cross-Functional Coordination

Act as the key interface between Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, Sourcing and Sales for costing approvals, budget variance analysis and pricing decisions. – Work closely with Finance on standard cost updates, cost audits and product-wise profitability (P&L;) reporting.

– Support contract negotiations and annual price revisions with data-backed costing justifications.

- New Product Introduction (NPI) Support

– Provide costing inputs at each gate of the NPD/APQP process to ensure target costing and margin objectives are met before launch. – Track actual vs. quoted cost post-launch and drive corrective actions for cost overruns.
- MIS, Reporting & Governance

– Prepare periodic dashboards on product profitability, cost trends, pricing variance and portfolio performance for leadership review. – Ensure costing processes, tools and documentation comply with internal controls and audit requirements.
- Team Leadership

– Lead,



mentor and develop a team of product/costing analysts; build costing capability and best practices across the BU. Key Skills & Competencies

- Strong expertise in product costing methodologies (standard costing, activity-based costing, should-costing) for automotive/engineering components.
- Sound understanding of automotive and special/industrial application product lines, manufacturing processes and BOM structures.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen — ability to translate cost data into pricing and business decisions.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) and advanced Excel; exposure to costing/PLM tools is an advantage.
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong negotiation, presentation and communication skills for interaction with OEM customers and senior leadership.
- Strategic thinking combined with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to costing accuracy.

Educational Qualification & Experience

- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile or Production Engineering; MBA (Finance/Marketing) preferred.
- 12–18 years of overall experience in product management, product costing or industrial/automotive engineering, with at least 4 years in a managerial capacity.
- Prior experience in an automotive component manufacturing, auto ancillary, or engineering products organization is strongly preferred.

- Internal: Engineering/R&D;, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Finance, Sales & Marketing, Quality.
- External: OEM customers, industry benchmarking forums, suppliers/vendors for cost inputs.
