Full-Stack Engineer

Job Summary

This is a lead-from-the-front engineering role at a company with real traction and a tech foundation that's ready to be rebuilt properly. You will be among the first full-time engineers, working directly with the CTO to take ownership of the product, deepen the technical foundation, and ship improvements to a platform used by 500+ organisations globally.

You will own features end-to-end - frontend, backend, database, deployment - without needing a lot of hand-holding. You'll also be the senior technical voice for a junior engineer on the team, setting the standard for how we write code, review work, and make decisions. This role is for someone who wants to build something real, not just execute tickets.

Responsibilities

Full-stack product development

- Own features end-to-end on Serein's customer-facing learning platform: building frontend interfaces, REST APIs, and database schemas, and seeing changes through to production.

- Work across a backend stack that includes Node.js or Python (Django/FastAPI), with PostgreSQL as the primary database.

- Write code that is clean, testable, and easy for the next person to reason about.

Web, marketing content

- Build and maintain landing pages, campaign pages, and other experiences on the Serein marketing site (WordPress + Elementor), extending them with custom JavaScript and CSS where needed.

- Collaborate with marketing and content teams to ship web experiences quickly without cutting corners on quality.

- Bring a performance-conscious mindset to everything that ships - fast load times, responsive layouts, and valuable Core Web Vitals scores are not afterthoughts.

Infrastructure deployment

- Get comfortable with the server-side of things: Linux VMs, cloud storage, deployment pipelines, and keeping things running reliably.

- Help establish sane engineering practices around deployment, environment management,



and infrastructure - nothing over-engineered, just enough to move fast without breaking things.

- Participate in cloud infrastructure work (AWS or GCP), including databases, storage, and basic networking.

Technical leadership

- Mentor and support a junior engineer - code reviews, pairing on tricky problems, and helping them grow without doing the work for them.

- Help establish lightweight engineering standards for the team: branching strategy, review process, code quality expectations.

- Work closely with the CTO to make good, pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed with longevity.

You have

- 2-4 years of professional full-stack experience, with production code shipped and maintained.

- Strong frontend skills: modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, CSS, and at least one component-based framework (React, Vue, Svelte). You're comfortable reading a Figma file and translating it into a responsive, pixel-faithful build.

- Solid backend skills: proficiency in at least one of Node.js (Express or similar), Python (Django or FastAPI), or PHP. You've designed simple APIs and know what makes them easy or painful to work with.

- Comfortable with PostgreSQL or MySQL - schema design, indexing basics, writing queries that don't fall over under load.

- Used Git in a team context: branches, pull requests, code review. You know what a merge conflict is and how to resolve one calmly.

- Familiar with deploying and running applications on Linux servers. You've SSH'd into a machine, poked at logs, and figured out why something wasn't working.

- TypeScript: strong plus. If you haven't used it yet, you're willing to.

- Experience with Docker, GSAP or animation libraries, Terraform, or any infrastructure-as-code tooling: all valued, none required.
