About the Role
We are looking for a technically solid Procurement Specialist to manage the sourcing of food ingredients, packaging materials and selected production equipment.
The role will cover coffee, cocoa, creamers, sugar, flavours, food additives, mono cartons, multilayer laminates, printed poly and FFS packaging machines. The candidate will work closely with R&D;, Quality, Production and Planning teams to identify suppliers, evaluate samples, negotiate commercials and ensure uninterrupted material availability.
Prior experience in food-product R&D; is expected, as the role requires a strong understanding of ingredient functionality, product specifications, formulations and packaging compatibility.
Key Responsibilities
1. Raw-Material Procurement
- Source coffee, cocoa, creamers, sugar, flavours, additives and other food ingredients.
- Identify and develop reliable domestic and international suppliers.
- Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, MOQs, credit terms, lead times and supply schedules.
- Track commodity prices and recommend suitable purchase quantities and timing.
- Develop alternate suppliers for critical and high-value ingredients.
2. Technical and R&D; Coordination
- Evaluate ingredients based on functionality, sensory profile, formulation requirements and commercial viability.
- Coordinate sampling, product trials and supplier approvals with R&D; and Quality teams.
- Work with suppliers to develop cost-effective ingredient alternatives without compromising product quality.
- Maintain raw-material specifications, technical data sheets, COAs and regulatory documentation.
- Support product development, reformulation and value-engineering projects.
3. Packaging-Material Procurement
- Procure mono cartons, multilayer laminates, printed poly, pouches, labels and corrugated boxes.
- Understand laminate structures, barrier properties, thickness, grammage and printing specifications.
- Coordinate artwork, cylinder development, print trials and commercial production.
- Ensure packaging compatibility with products, shelf-life requirements and FFS machines.
- Identify opportunities to reduce packaging cost, weight and wastage.
4. Machinery and Capital Purchases
- Support the evaluation and procurement of FFS machines, packaging equipment and ancillary systems.
- Compare suppliers on price, output, filling accuracy, automation, material consumption and maintenance.
- Coordinate machine trials, technical discussions, installation and commissioning.
- Negotiate quotations, warranties, spares, payment terms and after-sales support with guidance from management.
5. Supplier and Purchase Management
- Evaluate, onboard and maintain relationships with approved suppliers.
- Monitor suppliers across quality, cost, delivery and responsiveness.
- Create purchase orders and track materials until delivery and quality clearance.
- Resolve quality concerns, delivery delays, shortages and invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain procurement records, rate comparisons and supplier-performance reports.
6. Planning and Inventory Coordination
- Coordinate with Production and Planning teams to ensure timely material availability.
- Monitor stock levels,
consumption trends and open purchase orders.
- Help prevent stockouts, excess inventory, slow-moving stock and material expiry.
- Prepare procurement MIS covering purchase value, savings, price trends and supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with FSSAI, GST, import regulations and internal procurement processes.
Qualifications and Skills
- B.Tech/M.Tech in Food Technology, Food Science or a related discipline.
- 3–7 years of experience in food-product R&D;, technical procurement or ingredient sourcing.
- Prior hands-on experience in food R&D; or product development is expected.
- Understanding of food ingredients, formulations, sensory evaluation and product specifications.
- Exposure to flexible packaging materials and food-packaging requirements.
- Experience in coffee, cocoa, creamers, premixes, beverages or confectionery will be preferred.
- Strong commercial negotiation and supplier-development skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP or purchase-management systems.
- Ability to manage high-value purchases with accuracy and commercial discipline.
