Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of ophthalmic conditions in OPD and IP settings.
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and interpret diagnostic investigations.
- Conduct ophthalmic surgical procedures within the scope of credentialed privileges.
- Manage cataract, glaucoma, retinal, corneal, paediatric ophthalmology, oculoplasty, and other ophthalmic conditions as per specialization.
- Attend ophthalmic emergencies and provide timely medical and surgical intervention.
- Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, risks, and follow-up care.
- Prescribe appropriate medications, spectacles, contact lenses, and treatment plans.
- Coordinate with optometrists, nursing staff, OT personnel, and other departments for seamless patient care.
- Maintain accurate medical records, clinical documentation, and discharge summaries in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Participate in clinical audits, CMEs, departmental meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, infection control practices, and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in community eye screening camps and awareness programs as required.
- Contribute to departmental development and achievement of clinical quality indicators.
- Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by the Medical Superintendent or Hospital Management.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MS (Ophthalmology) / MD (Ophthalmology) / DNB (Ophthalmology).
- Fellowship in a subspecialty (Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Paediatric Ophthalmology, etc.) is desirable.
- Valid NMC / State Medical Council Registration.
Experience
- Minimum 2 5 years of experience as a Consultant/Senior Registrar in a multispecialty or tertiary care hospital.
- Experience in performing independent ophthalmic surgeries is preferred.
Skills
- Solid clinical and surgical expertise in ophthalmology.
- Excellent diagnostic and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, tonometry, OCT, visual field analysis, and other ophthalmic diagnostic procedures.
- Excellent patient counselling and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of NABH standards and clinical quality protocols.
- Good documentation and Hospital Information System (HIS) skills.
- Commitment to ethical medical practice and patient-centered care.
