Profile Summary-

We are hiring Deputy General Manager to lead our food and beverage manufacturing factory with full P&L; accountability. Reporting to the Managing Director, who will oversee all core departments- Operations, HR, Finance, Sales and Marketing and R&D-; to drive production, compliance, profitability and scalable growth.

The ideal candidate should be an operationally disciplined and commercially proven leader who builds effective systems and teams. Leading with integrity, empathy and vigilance, the GM will foster a transparent, accountable and respectful workplace that champions both employee well-being and long-term company success.

Functional Knowledge-

- Strong grounding in food-safety and quality systems (FSSAI, GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, EHS).
- Working knowledge of ERP/MIS systems for production planning, costing and reporting.
- Financial literacy covering budgeting, batch costing, cash flow, GST/TDS compliance and ROI evaluation.
- Familiarity with labour law, Factory Act provisions, PF/ESI/gratuity and industrial-relations practices.

Key Responsibilities: 1. Strategic & Overall Leadership-

- Full accountability of end-to-end P&L; and drive production, profitability, quality, efficiency and sustainable growth with integrity and empathy.
- Develop yearly, short-term and long-term business plans aligned with Company's Vision, team capability and future expansion needs.
- Lead expansion, product launches, modernisation and technology adoption through transparent and people-sensitive change management.
- Ensure cross-functional alignment on objectives, resources, priorities and timelines while resolving departmental concerns fairly.
- Represent the factory in leadership reviews with accurate MIS, performance updates, risks, progress and people-support requirements.
- Conduct weekly management meetings to track performance, close gaps, monitor actions and drive continuous improvement.
- Build a culture of fairness, transparency, respect, ethical conduct and shared success with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop future leaders by giving department heads clarity, authority, resources, trust and opportunities to take full accountability.

2. Operations Management-

- Manage Production Lead to perform end-to-end plant operations, including production planning, raw-material handling, processing, packaging, inventory management, warehouse management, dispatch, procurement coordination and maintenance.
- Ensure achievement of production, quality, cost and delivery (PQCD) targets while optimizing capacity utilisation, reducing work-in-progress (WIP) and meeting planned production schedules.
- Drive operational efficiency through wastage reduction, yield improvement, resource optimisation and continuous-improvement initiatives such as Lean, 5S, TPM, root-cause analysis and CAPA closure.
- Ensure compliance with FSSAI, GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000 (where applicable), EHS requirements and all other food-safety and statutory standards.
- Ensure readiness of sites food-safety and quality-governance, ensuring audit readiness, documentation, corrective actions and timely closure of non-conformities.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance to maximise equipment uptime and minimise unplanned downtime, including critical utilities such as compressed air, water, ventilation and ETP systems.
- Establish and enforce factory safety, health, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards across all operational areas.
- Liaise with statutory and regulatory authorities, including FSSAI auditors, Factory Inspector, Pollution Control Board and other relevant Govt. departments and ensure timely licences, renewals, inspections and compliance submissions.
- Lead capacity planning, new production-line implementation, automation, equipment upgrades, facility expansion and capital expenditure proposals in line with business growth plans.

3. Finance & Accounting-

- Work closely with the Finance & Accounting Lead to prepare, monitor and control annual budgets, including raw material, manpower and overhead costs.
- Review monthly financial statements,



cost variance reports and cash flow to ensure the factory meets budgeted operating profit and working capital targets.
- Drive cost-control and cost-optimisation initiatives across procurement, production and logistics.
- Ensure timely, accurate MIS/KPI reporting (production vs. plan, cost vs. budget, sales vs. target) to Management.
- Own full P&L; responsibility for the factory, prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts and capital investment plans.
- Monitor financial KPIs, implement cost-control strategies (raw material, labour, energy, packaging) and identify margin-improvement opportunities.
- Review daily/weekly/monthly MIS reports on production costs, batch costing and profitability, presenting findings to Management.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance and support finance staff in reconciliations and cash management.
- Evaluate ROI on capital expenditure, new product lines and expansion initiatives.

4. Human Resources-

- Manage HR Lead on manpower planning, recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, compensation structuring and HR-policy implementation across all departments.
- Build leadership depth and succession plans for department heads and other critical roles, particularly as the organisation expands into new departments and operations.
- Develop a strong internal leadership pipeline by identifying high-potential employees, assigning developmental responsibilities, coaching managers and preparing capable successors for key positions.
- Make employees physical, mental and emotional well-being an integral part of the organisations leadership and people-development approach.
- Promote a safe, respectful, supportive and inclusive work environment that enables employees to perform sustainably.
- Drive a culture of accountability, discipline, ownership, continuous learning, employee development and performance excellence across the factory and all support functions.
- Build and formalise recruitment, onboarding, training, skill-development, appraisal and performance-improvement processes to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, Factory Act provisions, statutory registrations and employee-welfare requirements, including PF, ESI, bonus, gratuity, leave, wages and other requirements relevant to factory operations.
- Support conflict resolution, disciplinary processes, employee grievance handling and engagement initiatives to strengthen relations, improve morale and reduce attrition.

5. Research & Development-

- Collaborate with the R&D; Head to scale lab-tested recipes and translate new product concepts into cost-effective commercial production processes while coordinating trial runs and quality validation.
- Oversee new product introduction (NPI) timelines, ensuring quality, compliance and cost targets are met before commercial launch.
- Build a culture of continuous product and process innovation across the factory.
- Oversee new product development timelines, ensuring alignment between R&D; and factory production departments.
- Guide custom product development for key B2B clients and ensure formulations meet food safety and cost targets.
- Track industry trends and emerging food safety/ingredient regulations relevant to R&D; roadmap.

6. Sales & Marketing-

- Manage the Sales & Marketing teams to align production planning with sales demand, new product launches and seasonal, promotional requirements.
- Lead by example and support market expansion, new business development and build and maintain relationships with B2B clients and key accounts, negotiating on favourable commercial terms.




- Review sales trends and customer feedback jointly with the marketing team to inform product and capacity decisions.
- Collaborate with the Sales & Marketing team to set revenue targets, monitor sales trends and adjust go-to-market strategy.

7. Governance, Compliance & Expansion Readiness-

- Ensure the factory complies with all local, state and central statutory and regulatory requirements (labour, environmental, food safety, industrial licensing, etc).
- Build scalable systems, SOPs and reporting structures (including ERP adoption) that can support the addition of new departments and business lines as the Company grows.
- Identify and mitigate operational, financial and compliance risks proactively.

Required Qualifications-

- Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline, MBA or postgraduate management qualification preferred.
- Formal certification or working knowledge of FSSAI, GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000 food-safety systems is preferred.

Experience-

- 5-10 years of overall experience in food, beverage or FMCG manufacturing with at least 3-7 years in a senior plant leadership carrying full P&L; accountability.
- Demonstrated track record managing multi-departmental operations (Production, Quality, Maintenance, HR, Finance, Sales) rather than pure production-only roles.
- Prior experience with capacity expansion, new-line commissioning, CapEx proposals and automation/technology adoption.
- Experience managing statutory liaison with FSSAI, Factorys and Boiler Office, Pollution Control Board and relevant to Odisha's and Indias regulatory compliances.

- Sales & Marketing: Synchronising production capacity with sales demand, B2B relationships and revenue targets.
- Governance & Scalability: Building SOPs, ERP based overall reporting and risk mitigation frameworks to support expansion.

- Financial- Operating profit vs. budget, cost variance (raw material, labour, energy, packaging), working-capital targets, ROI on CapEx
- Production- Capacity utilisation percentage, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)/uptime, Work in progress (WIP) reduction, yield percentage, on-time production-plan adherence.
- Quality & Compliance- Number/closure time of non-conformities (CAPA), audit scores (FSSAI/ISO 22000/HACCP), customer grievance resolution .
- People- Attrition rate, training hours per employee, succession-plan coverage for critical roles, employee engagement scores.
- R&D;/NPI- Number of new products launched on time, cost/quality targets met at launch.
- Sales- Forecast accuracy vs. actual sales, order fulfillment rate, B2B account growth.
- Safety/EHS- Lost-time-injury frequency rate, statutory license renewal timeliness, EHS incident closure rate.

Growth Path- A typical progression into and beyond this role as follows:

1. Entry into role: Deputy General Manager with 5-7 years of experience with proven P&L; exposure at departmental level, moving into senior role.
2. Within-role growth: Expands scope from single-factory management to multi-Factory responsibility as the company adds locations, as per capacity-planning and expansion mandates.
3. Long-term trajectory: progress to Vice President, President, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer overseeing multiple factories and after sustained P&L; delivery and successful expansion leadership, the natural path extends toward Director-level roles.
