Position - Consultant Ophthalmologist Retina Surgeon

Department - Ophthalmology / Vitreo-Retina Services

Location: Cochin, Kerala

Experience - Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience

Qualification

- MBBS with MS / DNB / DO in Ophthalmology from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship / specialized training in Vitreo-Retina / Medical Retina is preferred.
- Relevant training and demonstrated clinical exposure in retinal procedures and management of retinal disorders.
- Valid registration with the respective Medical Council / National Medical Commission.

Candidate Profile We are looking for a competent and patient-focused Retina Consultant / Retina Surgeon with a minimum of 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience and appropriate specialized training/exposure in retina.

Candidates with strong experience in medical retina, intravitreal procedures and retinal surgery, along with good patient communication and clinical decision-making skills, will be preferred. Experience in a reputed eye hospital or established ophthalmology/retina centre will be an added advantage.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmologist Retina Surgeon to join our ophthalmology team in Kochi, Kerala.

The Consultant will be responsible for the diagnosis, medical management and surgical treatment of patients with retinal and vitreoretinal disorders.

The role involves comprehensive retina evaluation, interpretation of relevant investigations, treatment planning, retinal procedures, patient counselling and post-operative management.

The ideal candidate should possess strong clinical judgement, appropriate retinal surgical exposure and the ability to independently manage a broad range of retina cases within their area of expertise and clinical privileges.

Key Responsibilities

1. Retina Consultation & Diagnosis

- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic and retinal examinations. • Diagnose and manage medical and surgical retinal disorders. • Review patient history, clinical findings and diagnostic investigations. • Develop appropriate treatment plans based on individual patient requirements. • Identify cases requiring emergency intervention or specialized retinal management. • Coordinate with other ophthalmic subspecialties when required.

1. Medical Retina Management

- Diagnose and manage retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, macular disorders and other retinal pathologies. • Evaluate patients requiring intravitreal therapy. • Plan appropriate treatment based on clinical findings and diagnostic investigations. • Monitor treatment response and modify management plans where clinically appropriate. • Provide long-term follow-up for chronic retinal conditions.

3. Intravitreal Procedures

- Perform intravitreal injections in accordance with established clinical protocols and appropriate indications. • Evaluate patients before and after intravitreal treatment.



• Counsel patients regarding treatment benefits, potential risks and follow-up requirements. • Monitor patients for treatment response and potential complications. • Maintain accurate procedural documentation.

4. Retinal & Vitreoretinal Surgery

- Evaluate patients requiring retinal and vitreoretinal surgical intervention. • Perform retinal procedures within the scope of clinical expertise, training and hospital credentialing. • Undertake appropriate surgical planning for retinal cases. • Manage pre-operative and post-operative requirements. • Monitor surgical outcomes and manage complications appropriately. • Coordinate with OT, anaesthesia and other clinical teams as required.

5. Diagnostic Evaluation The Consultant should be competent in reviewing and clinically correlating relevant retinal investigations, including: • OCT • Fundus photography • Fundus fluorescein angiography, where applicable • B-scan ultrasonography • Other relevant retinal imaging and diagnostic investigations The Consultant should be able to interpret investigation findings in conjunction with clinical examination and formulate appropriate treatment plans.

6. Emergency Retina Care

- Evaluate patients presenting with acute retinal complaints. • Identify time-sensitive retinal conditions requiring urgent intervention. • Manage appropriate retinal emergencies within the scope of expertise. • Coordinate emergency surgical or specialist intervention when required. • Ensure timely documentation and follow-up.

7. Patient Counselling

- Explain the diagnosis and treatment options clearly to patients and attendants. • Counsel patients regarding surgical and non-surgical treatment options. • Explain expected outcomes, risks, limitations and possible complications. • Provide appropriate counselling regarding the need for repeated treatments or long-term follow-up. • Obtain informed consent before procedures and surgeries. • Maintain a compassionate and patient-centric approach.

8. Pre-operative & Post-operative Management

- Conduct appropriate pre-operative assessment for retinal surgeries. • Review investigations and determine surgical suitability. • Develop appropriate surgical plans. • Conduct post-operative reviews and monitor recovery. • Identify and manage complications appropriately. • Ensure continuity of care and appropriate follow-up.

9. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

- Follow hospital clinical protocols, SOPs and infection-control practices. • Maintain high standards of surgical and clinical safety.



• Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives. • Ensure accurate clinical and surgical documentation. • Monitor clinical outcomes and contribute to service quality improvement. • Report adverse events and complications according to hospital protocols.

10. Team Collaboration

- Work closely with optometrists, nurses, technicians, counsellors and other ophthalmologists. • Coordinate with diagnostic and OT teams for effective patient management. • Guide junior doctors and clinical team members when required. • Participate in case discussions and clinical review meetings. • Maintain effective communication with hospital leadership and administrative teams.

11. Career development

- Keep updated with advances in medical and surgical retina. • Participate in CME programs, workshops, conferences and clinical training. • Stay updated on new retinal treatment modalities and surgical techniques. • Share knowledge and clinical best practices with the ophthalmology team. • Contribute to clinical education and training initiatives where required.

Salary: 2.00 Lakhs 5.00 Lakhs per month Compensation will be finalized based on:
