Candidate Profile We are looking for a clinically strong, surgically competent and patient-oriented Ophthalmologist with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, who can independently handle cataract and refractive surgery cases and contribute to the growth of the ophthalmology services. Candidates with strong surgical exposure, good patient communication skills and experience in a reputed eye hospital / ophthalmology setup will be preferred.

Qualification
- MBBS with MS / DNB / DO in Ophthalmology from a recognized institution.
- Additional fellowship / specialized training in Cataract Surgery, Refractive Surgery or related areas will be preferred.
- Valid registration with the respective Medical Council / National Medical Commission.
Position Overview We are looking for an experienced and patient-focused Consultant Ophthalmologist Cataract & Refractive Surgeon to join our clinical team in Thrissur and Kochi, Kerala.
The Consultant will be responsible for providing comprehensive ophthalmic consultation, accurate diagnosis, surgical evaluation and treatment, with primary expertise in cataract and refractive procedures.
The role requires a strong combination of clinical knowledge, surgical proficiency, patient counselling and post-operative care. The successful candidate will work closely with the clinical and support teams to ensure high standards of patient care, surgical outcomes, safety and patient satisfaction.
Candidate Profile

Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Consultation & Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and consultations. • Diagnose and manage cataract, refractive errors and other anterior segment-related conditions. • Evaluate patients to determine appropriate surgical and non-surgical treatment options. • Review patient history, investigations and diagnostic reports before recommending treatment.
• Identify cases requiring referral to other ophthalmic subspecialties where appropriate. • Ensure appropriate documentation of clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment plans.
2. Cataract Surgery
- Independently perform cataract surgeries as per clinical protocols and organizational standards. • Perform phacoemulsification procedures with appropriate surgical planning. • Assess patients for appropriate IOL selection based on clinical requirements and patient expectations. • Manage routine and complex cataract cases based on individual clinical suitability. • Provide appropriate pre-operative evaluation and surgical counselling. • Ensure proper post-operative monitoring and management. • Identify and manage post-operative complications appropriately and escalate when required.
3. Refractive Surgery
- Evaluate patients for suitability for refractive procedures. • Counsel patients regarding available refractive correction options, expected outcomes, benefits and limitations. • Perform refractive procedures within the scope of training, credentialing and clinical privileges. • Ensure appropriate pre-operative investigations and patient selection. • Monitor patients during the post-operative period and manage complications appropriately. • Maintain awareness of current developments and best practices in refractive surgery.
4. Patient Counselling
- Explain diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures and expected outcomes clearly to patients and attendants. • Provide realistic counselling regarding surgical benefits, risks, limitations and recovery timelines. • Address patient concerns and ensure informed consent is obtained before procedures. • Support patients in making informed decisions regarding treatment. • Maintain a professional, empathetic and patient-centric approach at all times.
5. Pre-operative & Post-operative Care
- Review all required investigations before surgery. • Assess surgical fitness and identify relevant risk factors. • Ensure appropriate surgical planning and documentation. • Conduct post-operative reviews and monitor recovery. • Manage routine post-operative complaints and complications. • Coordinate with other clinical teams whenever specialized intervention is required.
6. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
- Follow hospital clinical protocols, SOPs and infection-control standards. • Maintain high standards of surgical safety and patient care. • Participate in clinical audits,
quality improvement initiatives and outcome monitoring. • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation. • Report adverse events and complications as per hospital policy. • Contribute to maintaining high clinical standards and patient satisfaction.
7. Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with optometrists, nurses, technicians, counsellors and other ophthalmologists. • Guide and support junior doctors and clinical team members when required. • Coordinate effectively with the Operation Theatre and diagnostic teams. • Participate in clinical discussions and case reviews. • Maintain effective communication with the hospital administration and clinical leadership
8. Professional Development
- Keep updated with advances in cataract, refractive and anterior segment ophthalmology. • Participate in CME programs, clinical meetings, workshops and training programs. • Share clinical knowledge and best practices with the wider ophthalmology team. • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
