Key Responsibilities
1. Scientific & Innovation Strategy
- Develop and implement the company's long-term scientific and innovation strategy.
- Identify emerging technologies, materials, treatment modalities and healthcare trends
- Build a structured innovation pipeline aligned with market opportunities and unmet clinical needs.
- Establish a culture of scientific research, experimentation and evidence-based product development.
2. Current Product Development
- Lead the complete New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle from ideation and concept development to prototyping, validation and commercialisation.
- Identify opportunities for next-generation orthopaedic, rehabilitation, wound-care, compression, medical textile and patient-care products.
- Drive development of differentiated products with strong clinical, functional and commercial value.
- Establish stage-gate processes for product development and innovation.
3. R&D; Leadership
- Lead and develop the organisation's R&D;/scientific teams.
- Build multidisciplinary capabilities across medical devices, materials science, biomechanics, medical textiles, polymer science, product engineering and clinical validation.
- Establish scientific research protocols, documentation standards and innovation KPIs.
- Encourage collaboration between R&D;, engineering, manufacturing and quality functions.
4. Clinical & Scientific Validation
- Strengthen the scientific and clinical evidence supporting new and existing products.
- Develop relationships with orthopaedic surgeons, vascular surgeons, physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists, hospitals and academic institutions.
- Lead clinical evaluation, product validation, usability studies and evidence-generation initiatives.
- Translate clinical requirements into commercially viable product concepts.
5. Technology & Material Innovation
- Evaluate new materials, technologies and manufacturing processes that can improve product performance, patient comfort, safety and cost.
- Explore opportunities in smart textiles, advanced polymers, wearable healthcare technologies, sensor-enabled products and other emerging medical-device technologies, where commercially relevant.
- Build partnerships with universities, research institutions, technology companies and specialist R&D; organisations.
6. Intellectual Property
- Develop an IP and patent strategy for the organisation.
- Identify patentable innovations and ensure appropriate protection of intellectual property.
- Build a portfolio of patents, designs, proprietary technologies and differentiated product platforms.
7. Regulatory & Quality Collaboration
- Work closely with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure that product development is aligned with applicable Indian and international medical-device regulations.
- Support regulatory submissions, technical documentation, product validation and certification requirements.
- Ensure scientific and R&D; practices are aligned with relevant ISO 13485 and international quality requirements.
8. Commercialisation
- Ensure R&D; is closely connected to business objectives.
- Evaluate product concepts based on market potential, customer need, clinical value, scalability, manufacturability and commercial viability.
- Work with Product and Business teams to establish product positioning and commercialisation strategies.
- Track NPD success through measurable metrics such as time-to-market, innovation revenue, product success rate and R&D; ROI.
