This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager – Data Services & Managed File Transfer based in India.

You will join a critical data platform function responsible for powering enterprise-wide data infrastructure across a large, regulated financial services environment. The role carries end-to-end ownership of a complex estate spanning databases and secure file transfer systems that support trading, risk, compliance, and reporting functions. You will lead a distributed engineering team operating across multiple geographies in a 24/7 follow-the-sun model. This is a highly delivery-focused leadership role requiring strong technical depth and the ability to stay close to engineering challenges. You will drive operational excellence, automation, and modernization across legacy and cloud environments. The position blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic roadmap ownership and transformation initiatives. It offers high impact in a rapid-paced, regulated, and mission-critical technology landscape.

Accountabilities:

- Lead and develop a distributed engineering team (~8 members), ensuring strong performance management, coaching, and career development across database and platform engineers.

- Own the availability, reliability, performance, and resilience of a large, heterogeneous database estate (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS RDS).

- Manage Managed File Transfer operations (GoAnywhere or equivalent), ensuring secure, compliant, and reliable data exchange with internal and external partners.

- Oversee 24/7 operational support, incident/problem/change management, and drive permanent resolution of recurring issues through root-cause analysis.

- Define and deliver automation and self-service platform capabilities to reduce operational toil and improve engineering efficiency.

- Lead cloud and on-prem migration programmes, including strategy, execution,



risk management, and stakeholder coordination.

- Ensure governance, security, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance (including FCA and MiFID II requirements).

- Manage vendor relationships, licensing strategy, and cost optimization initiatives across database and infrastructure technologies.

Requirements:

- 12+ years of experience in database administration, data platforms, or infrastructure engineering, with at least 3+ years in engineering management roles.

- Strong hands-on expertise in enterprise database technologies such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, including HA/DR, performance tuning, and production operations.

- Proven experience managing large-scale, distributed teams and 24/7 operational environments in regulated or high-availability domains.

- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale migrations, modernization, or transformation programmes with minimal disruption.

- Experience in cloud environments (AWS and/or GCP), including migration planning, cost modelling, and hybrid architectures.

- Robust understanding of automation, infrastructure-as-code, and platform engineering principles.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear business impact.

- Strong stakeholder management skills across engineering, product, risk, and executive audiences.

- Experience working within regulated environments with exposure to audit, compliance, and security frameworks.
