Experience in large, modular codebases, in product-focused Android application development
Fluency in reactive patterns (RxJava or equivalents)
A strong testing culture - unit, screenshot and UI tests as part of everyday work. Experienced at keeping the tests healthy. Experience using JUnit and Espresso frameworks for unit and UI testing
Product-minded pragmatism: experiments, metrics, iteration
Proficiency in profiling and optimising Android apps across a wide device range
Understanding of design patterns and Object-Oriented Programming
Comfortable using AI tools such as Claude Code
Ability to work cross-functionally with mobile engineers, backend, QA, product managers, and designers. Ability to document and communicate technical approaches clearly. Strong collaboration and communication skills
Comfortable working with monetisation and payment flows (credits, subscriptions, in-app purchases)
Solid computer science foundations: algorithms, data structures, concurrency, threading
Nice to have
Computer Science/Tech related degrees
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices (TeamCity or similar)
Experience/familiarity with RIBs, MVICore, or other component / unidirectional-data-flow architectures
Kotlin Coroutines/Flow experience
Experience working with Protobuf/gRPC or other schema-driven API tooling
Knowledge of socket-based networking and binary protocols
Experience with Gradle build tooling at scale
Experience shipping multiple app flavours/targets from one codebase
Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and feature flagging for gradual rollouts
Familiarity with analytics, remote reporting, and performance metrics
Youll ship features for millions of users from a Kotlin monorepo that powers Android App apps in the portfolio. You will own and drive product & technical projects from idea through to delivery and post-production monitoring.
The Android App app is a mature, Kotlin-first codebase built on Appyx/RIBs with RxJava 3 for reactive state, Dagger for dependency injection, and a protobuf-based in-house API protocol talking to Android Apps high-scale backend (with some components on gRPC stack). UI is a working mix of Jetpack Compose and legacy XML Views, with an active migration path (RIBs+XML -> Appyx+Compose). Our members are global and often on mid-range hardware, so performance, startup time, and APK size are product features, not afterthoughts. Youll both build the Android App product and shape what the modern codebase becomes.
Architecture matters here. The new UI is written in Compose inside our component architecture, so youll maintain and evolve a production codebase while writing new work to the modern standard and helping carry Android App there.
What youll do
Build and ship user-facing features end-to-end across Android Apps feature modules, using Cosmos, our cross-platform design system (engage in the entire development process, from ideation and design to release and support)
Partner closely and collaborate cross-functionally with Backend and iOS, QA, Product & Design teams
Work with a protobuf/gRPC API layer shared with our backend teams - you will own the client side of the contract
Write new UI in Jetpack Compose within our Appyx architecture while keeping the existing XML/MVICore codebase healthy, and contribute to the Compose migration
Test at every level: JUnit unit tests, screenshot/visual-regression (VRT) tests, Espresso UI tests; extend coverage where its thin
Verify your changes end-to-end on supported devices using our test tooling to ensure high quality standard and delightful member experience for shipped changes
Run A/B experiments, measure impact, and iterate with product and design
Adopt AI tools to accelerate ideation, prototyping, and iteration on current features, enabling faster experimentation with production-ready code
Participate in code reviews and mentor
Maintain and evolve the Android App app (occasionally support other apps from Android App Inc. portfolio) and contribute to the evolution of Android App s codebase
Contribute to incident management - ensuring 100% of incidents are handled, postmortems written, and actions taken
Build and maintain monetisation logic like credits-based flows, subscription features
