Role & responsibilities for Lab Technician:
- Perform routine laboratory investigations and process blood, urine, body fluids, and other clinical specimens as per standard procedures.
- Collect, receive, label, verify, and process patient samples while maintaining proper sample identification and traceability.
- Perform laboratory tests using appropriate manual and automated techniques and ensure accurate results.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic instruments.
- Maintain proper quality control procedures and ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Handle genetic and molecular diagnostic samples as per established laboratory protocols.
- Assist in genetic testing procedures such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, and other molecular techniques, based on the laboratory's scope.
- Maintain accurate records of sample processing, test results, QC data, and equipment maintenance.
- Enter and update patient and test information accurately in the LIS/Hospital ERP system.
- Follow laboratory safety, infection control, PPE, and biomedical waste management procedures.
- Identify and report sample discrepancies, abnormal results, equipment issues, and technical errors to the concerned senior/pathologist.
- Coordinate with Pathologists, Doctors, Nurses, and other laboratory staff for smooth processing of investigations.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of samples and laboratory materials as per hospital protocols.
- Assist during internal and external quality audits and maintain required documentation.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
- Role and responsibilities of Histopathology technician:
- Receive, identify, label, and process biopsy, surgical, cytology, and other tissue specimens according to established protocols.
- Perform tissue fixation,
gross specimen handling, processing, dehydration, clearing, and paraffin embedding.
- Carry out accurate microtomy and tissue sectioning and prepare high-quality slides for microscopic examination.
- Perform routine H&E; staining and special stains as required for histopathological diagnosis.
- Assist in Immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures, including slide preparation, staining, and quality checks.
- Handle and process specimens required for genetic and molecular investigations while maintaining sample integrity.
- Assist in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, molecular testing, and other genetic diagnostic procedures within the laboratory's scope.
- Maintain proper sample identification, tracking, storage, and documentation for histopathology and genetic specimens.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, embedding stations, staining systems, microscopes, and molecular diagnostic equipment.
- Perform appropriate quality control checks for tissue processing, staining, IHC, and molecular testing.
- Identify technical problems such as poor tissue fixation, sectioning defects, staining errors, or sample quality issues and report them to the concerned pathologist/senior technician.
- Maintain accurate records of specimen processing, staining, IHC, genetic testing, QC, and equipment maintenance.
- Follow strict biosafety, infection control, PPE, and biomedical waste management procedures.
- Coordinate with Pathologists, Geneticists, Laboratory Technicians, and clinical departments for timely processing of specimens.
- Assist in laboratory audits, quality assurance activities, and accreditation requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of patient specimens, genetic information, and diagnostic reports.
Preferred candidate profile
Qualification : B.Sc MLT / DMLT
Experience : 2 to 5 years
Candidate should have valuable communication.
