Job Description
We are looking for a creative and technically oriented Fashion Designer to work on the design, development, construction and improvement of surgical dressings and medical textile products, including Absorbent Cotton Gauze BP/IP, abdominal mops, cotton plugs, surgical kits, drapes and customised surgeon-specific products.
The candidate should have a strong understanding of fabric construction, yarns, weaving, GSM, dimensions, ply, folding, stitching, cutting, finishing and packaging, with the ability to translate clinical requirements into practical medical textile products.
The role will involve working closely with production, quality control, regulatory, hospital procurement teams and surgeons to develop products that are functionally suitable and capable of meeting applicable BP, IP and relevant Indian/international specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop surgical dressing and medical textile products based on clinical and customer requirements.
Develop product specifications for:
* Absorbent Cotton Gauze BP/IP
* X-ray detectable gauze
* Abdominal mops
* Cotton plugs
* Surgical swabs
* Surgical packs/kits
* Drapes and protective covers
* Customised surgeon-specific products.
- Understand and work with cotton yarn, combed yarn, compact yarn and woven fabric construction.
- Determine and maintain appropriate:
* Dimensions
* Ply
* GSM
* Yarn count
* Weave/construction
* Absorbency
* Folding pattern
* Stitching/finishing
* Packaging configuration.
- Prepare technical drawings, product sketches, patterns, specifications and samples.
- Coordinate with weaving, bleaching, cutting, folding, stitching and packing teams to achieve the required product construction.
- Study applicable requirements of British Pharmacopoeia (BP), Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP), Indian Standards and other relevant medical-textile specifications.
- Work with QC/QA to ensure that product development is aligned with applicable specifications and test requirements.
- Participate in product validation, sample evaluation and design improvement.
- Develop new products based on feedback from surgeons, hospitals and procurement departments.
- Maintain design history, product specifications, sample records and revision control.
- Identify opportunities to improve clinical usability, lint control, absorbency, handling, packaging and ease of use in surgery.
- Assist in developing premium medical textile products for specialised surgical applications.
Candidate Profile
Education
- Degree/Diploma in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Textile Technology, Medical Textiles or Garment Technology.Candidates with strong practical textile experience may also be
- considered.
Essential Skills
The candidate should understand:
- Textile and fabric construction
- Weaving and yarn characteristics

Significant Requirement
The candidate does not need to be a regulatory expert, but must have the ability and willingness to understand technical standards and convert them into practical product-design and manufacturing requirements.
The person should be comfortable asking:
What does the standard require, and how do we convert that requirement into the actual fabric, construction, dimensions, processing and finished surgical product?
