Dispense medicines to patients as per valid prescriptions and hospital policies.
Verify prescriptions for correct drug, dose, route, frequency, duration and patient details before dispensing.
Maintain proper storage of medicines, including temperature-sensitive, high-alert and look-alike/sound-alike medicines.
Monitor expiry dates, stock levels and ensure proper stock rotation using FEFO (First Expiry, First Out).
Maintain accurate records of medicine receipt, issue, stock, returns, expiry and disposal.
Ensure protected handling and dispensing of narcotic/controlled and other regulated medicines as per applicable requirements.
Counsel patients and attendants regarding correct medicine use, dosage, precautions and storage wherever required.
Identify and promptly report medication errors,
adverse drug reactions and other medication-related incidents.
Coordinate with doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists regarding medication-related queries and patient safety.
Follow infection prevention, biomedical waste management, fire safety and occupational safety practices.
Participate in medication audits, quality improvement activities, training and competency assessments as required by the hospital.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with hospital policies, applicable laws and NABH requirements.
