Job Purpose
We are looking for a Fabric Designer with strong knowledge of woven fabrics who can develop commercially viable and trend-relevant fabric designs for garment manufacturers, brands, and export customers.
The candidate should be capable of converting design concepts and buyer references into weave constructions, yarn combinations, colourways and dobby designs suitable for bulk production.
Key Responsibilities
Develop recent woven fabric designs and collections based on current market trends.
Create designs for checks, stripes, dobby structures, textures, solids and yarn-dyed fabrics.
Develop fabrics suitable for shirts, kurtis, dresses, bottoms and other woven garments.
Study buyer references, garment samples and fabric swatches and develop similar or improved constructions.
Decide suitable:
Yarn counts
Warp and weft combinations
EPI/PPI or reed/pick
Weave structures
GSM
Fabric width
Colour combinations
Develop dobby designs and coordinate with weaving teams for execution.
Work with cotton, polyester, viscose/rayon, linen, CVC,
PC and blended yarns.
Coordinate with yarn suppliers, warping, sizing, weaving, processing and finishing teams.
Develop recent fabric samples and maintain a systematic fabric sample library.
Create multiple colourways for selected fabric designs.
Monitor sampling from concept through loom development and finished fabric.
Identify and correct issues related to construction, appearance, hand feel, GSM and shrinkage.
Ensure developed fabrics are commercially feasible and cost-effective, not just aesthetically attractive.
Regularly research Indian and international fabric, colour and garment trends.
Develop seasonal fabric collections for presentation to existing and prospective buyers.
Maintain complete technical records for every approved fabric development.
