Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and responsible Nursing Superintendent to lead and supervise the nursing department, ensuring high standards of patient care, nursing practices, staff discipline, and compliance with hospital policies. The Nursing Superintendent will be responsible for overall nursing operations, staff management, training, and coordination with doctors and hospital management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the overall nursing operations of the hospital.
- Ensure adequate nursing staff deployment across wards, NICU, PICU, OT, labour room, emergency, and other clinical areas as applicable.
- Prepare and monitor nursing duty rosters, shift schedules, and staff allocation.
- Supervise nursing staff and ensure adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and clinical standards.
- Monitor the quality and safety of patient care provided by the nursing team.
- Ensure proper implementation of infection prevention and control practices.
- Conduct regular rounds of nursing areas and identify gaps in patient care and nursing services.
- Coordinate with doctors, department heads, and hospital management for smooth patient care.
- Monitor nursing documentation, medication administration, patient monitoring, and other clinical records.
- Ensure proper handover and takeover between nursing shifts.
- Identify competency gaps among nursing staff and arrange appropriate training and skill-development programs.
- Conduct orientation and induction programs for newly joined nursing staff.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, discipline, and performance of nursing personnel.
- Handle nursing staff grievances and resolve operational issues in coordination with management.
- Ensure proper availability and utilization of nursing equipment, consumables, and other essential supplies.
- Monitor compliance with emergency protocols and ensure nursing staff are prepared to handle critical situations.
- Participate in quality improvement, audits, incident reporting, and corrective action processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable hospital accreditation, statutory, and patient-safety requirements.
- Maintain proper nursing records, reports, and departmental documentation.
- Monitor patient and attendant feedback related to nursing services and take corrective measures where required.
- Ensure continuous improvement in nursing standards and patient experience.
- Perform any other nursing administration responsibilities assigned by hospital management.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the respective State Nursing Council.
- Additional qualification in Hospital Administration / Nursing Administration will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in a Mother & Child Care Hospital.
- Previous experience in a Nursing Superintendent / Nursing In-charge / Nursing Administration role will be preferred.
- Experience in managing nursing teams and multiple clinical departments is desirable.
