Job Purpose:

To ensure the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of a gas engine-based power plant during the assigned shift. The Shift Engineer is responsible for monitoring plant equipment, coordinating with maintenance teams, handling operational issues, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and monitor gas engine generators and associated auxiliary equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pumps, air compressors).

Conduct routine checks of engine performance parameters such as load, temperature, pressure, emissions, and vibration.

Maintain logs and reports of operational activities, equipment readings, and abnormalities during the shift.

Start-up, shutdown, and synchronization of gas engines as per SOPs.

Identify, troubleshoot, and report any operational abnormalities or equipment malfunctions.

Coordinate with maintenance teams for planned and unplanned maintenance activities.

Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.

Perform first-level troubleshooting and minor adjustments to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Respond to emergency situations like equipment failure or fire alarms promptly and in accordance with the plant’s emergency response plan.





Maintain proper communication with the control room and other departments.

Provide shift handover with complete status updates to incoming shift personnel.

Qualification & Experience:

Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Power Engineering.

Experience: 2–5 years of experience in operating gas engine-based or reciprocating engine-based power plants (e.g., Rolls-Royce-Bergen, Wartsila, Jenbacher, Caterpillar, MWM, MTU, Waukesha, etc.).

Skills and Competencies:

Strong understanding of gas engine operations and control systems (SCADA/DCS/HMI).

Knowledge of plant safety practices and procedures.

Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.

Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Effective communication and team coordination skills.

Willingness to work in rotating shifts and respond to emergency calls.

Preferred Certifications (Optional):

Safety training certifications (e.g., Fire Safety, First Aid, Lockout/Tagout)
