Optometrist – Job Description

Position: Optometrist
Department: Clinical / Optometry
Location: Nirmals Eye Hospital, Tambaram, Chennai
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and patient-focused Optometrist to perform comprehensive eye examinations, assess visual function, identify ocular abnormalities, and support ophthalmologists in diagnosis and treatment planning.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and vision assessments.
- Perform visual acuity, refraction, subjective and objective refraction.
- Perform slit-lamp examination and other basic optometric assessments.
- Conduct IOP measurement, keratometry, pachymetry and other diagnostic tests as required.
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessments for cataract and other eye procedures.
- Assist doctors during patient evaluation and provide accurate clinical findings.
- Identify suspected ocular conditions and refer patients to ophthalmologists when required.
- Explain test procedures and findings to patients clearly and professionally.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient examination and investigation details.
- Handle and maintain optometry equipment properly.
- Maintain infection-control and patient-safety standards.
- Support optical services by providing appropriate spectacle/lens recommendations when required.
- Participate in eye camps and community screening programs when assigned.
- Maintain valuable patient communication and ensure a positive patient experience.




- Coordinate effectively with doctors, nurses, technicians and other hospital departments.

Required Qualifications

- B.Optom / Bachelor of Optometry or equivalent qualification.
- Valid professional registration, wherever applicable.
- Freshers and experienced candidates may apply.
- Good clinical knowledge and communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge is preferred.

Working Conditions

The role may involve working in the hospital, optical department, diagnostic areas and community eye camps as assigned.

Salary: Based on qualification and experience.
