Role Description
Nyaaya is seeking an experienced legal professional to anchor the Samvidhaan Fellowship in Karnataka. This is a leadership role for someone who combines litigation expertise with programme management and is passionate about strengthening access to justice.
As the State Fellowship Manager, you will drive the strategic and operational success of the Fellowship across Karnataka. You will lead a cohort of Fellows, oversee a diverse portfolio of litigation and legal aid initiatives, build partnerships with lawyers and civil society organisations, and ensure that legal interventions translate into meaningful outcomes for underserved communities.
Working closely with the Access to Justice Lead, mentors, and external stakeholders, you will shape how the Fellowship delivers impact while strengthening systems, processes, and partnerships that advance the programme’s long-term vision.
This is an opportunity to play a leadership role in one of India’s most impactful access-to-justice initiatives. You will help shape legal interventions that improve people’s everyday interactions with the justice system while mentoring the next generation of public-interest legal professionals.
Key responsibilities include:
Programme Leadership
- Lead the implementation and growth of the Samvidhaan Fellowship across Karnataka, ensuring high-quality programme delivery and measurable impact.
- Translate programme priorities into clear workplans, milestones, and performance goals for Fellows.
- Foster a high-performing learning environment through regular coaching, feedback, and peer learning.
- Coordinate with mentors, advisors, and subject matter experts to strengthen Fellows’ professional development.
Litigation & Access to Justice
- Provide strategic oversight of the Fellowship’s litigation and legal aid portfolio,
ensuring timely, high-quality case management.
- Guide Fellows on litigation strategy, client counselling, grievance redressal, and legal interventions.
- Build and strengthen relationships with advocates, legal service providers, courts, and partner organisations.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of litigation and legal aid opportunities, including identifying cases with the potential for systemic impact.
- Monitor case progress, referrals, documentation, and outcomes while ensuring strong quality assurance and knowledge management.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the state-level representative for the Fellowship, supporting in cultivating trusted relationships with legal practitioners, institutions, and civil society partners.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the Fellowship’s ecosystem through collaborations, partnerships, and strategic initiatives.
- Capture insights and best practices to inform programme improvements and contribute to Nyaaya’s broader access-to-justice mission.
Who We’re Looking For
You are a legal professional with a solid foundation in litigation and a track record of leading people, programmes, or access to justice projects. You are equally comfortable navigating court processes, mentoring early-career professionals, and building partnerships that create lasting social impact.
Eligibility criteria
- Undergraduate degree in law.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in litigation, legal aid, programme management, or a related field.
Skills & Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kannada.
- Strong understanding of litigation processes, court procedures, and legal aid ecosystems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor professionals, and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
- Excellent planning, analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Location and Remuneration
- This is a full-time position based out of Bangalore, with occasional travel depending on programme requirements.
- The remuneration for this role is in the range of INR 70,000-80,000 depending on experience.
