HORTICULTURIST

About the Role
We are looking for a knowledgeable and hands-on Horticulturist to manage and maintain high-end residential landscapes, gardens, indoor plants, outdoor plantations, and green spaces across our projects.
The ideal candidate should have strong practical knowledge of plant selection, soil management, irrigation, pruning, pest and disease control, seasonal maintenance, nursery management, and landscape upkeep. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that every landscape area remains healthy, aesthetically appealing, and maintained to premium standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Landscape & Plant Management
- Plan, develop, and maintain gardens, lawns, vertical gardens, terraces, balconies, and indoor plant areas.
- Select appropriate plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, palms, grasses, and ornamental species based on climate, soil, sunlight, and project requirements.
- Monitor plant health and identify nutrient deficiencies, diseases, pests, and environmental stress.
- Ensure proper pruning, trimming, staking, fertilisation, mulching, and plant replacement.
- Maintain high standards of landscape aesthetics and presentation.
2. Site Management
- Conduct regular visits to project sites and inspect landscape conditions.
- Prepare site-wise horticulture maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, gardeners, contractors, landscape vendors, and project managers.
- Monitor execution of plantation and landscape-related work.
- Ensure that all horticulture work is completed as per approved designs and quality standards.
- Maintain proper records of plants, materials, manpower, maintenance activities, and site requirements.
3. Irrigation & Water Management
- Monitor irrigation systems, sprinklers, drip irrigation, pumps, timers, and water distribution.
- Identify irrigation-related issues and coordinate timely rectification.
- Recommend productive watering schedules according to plant type and seasonal conditions.
- Minimise water wastage while ensuring adequate plant hydration.
4. Plant Health & Maintenance
- Develop fertilisation and plant nutrition schedules.
- Monitor and control pests, insects, fungal infections, and plant diseases.
- Recommend appropriate organic or chemical treatments wherever required.
- Ensure safe and responsible application of pesticides, fertilisers, and other horticultural products.
- Maintain proper plant growth through seasonal pruning and maintenance.
5. Nursery & Procurement Coordination
- Coordinate with nurseries and plant suppliers for procurement.
- Inspect plant quality, size, health, and species before purchase or installation.
- Maintain an updated plant inventory.
- Coordinate procurement of soil, manure, fertilisers, pesticides, pots, planters, gardening tools, and other horticulture materials.
- Compare vendor quotations and support cost-effective procurement.
6. Team & Vendor Management
- Supervise gardeners and horticulture labourers.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor manpower productivity.
- Train gardening staff in proper plant care and maintenance practices.
- Coordinate with external landscape maintenance agencies and contractors.
- Ensure discipline, attendance, safety, and work quality of gardening manpower.
7. Client & Project Coordination
- Attend site meetings whenever horticulture-related matters are discussed.
- Understand client preferences and provide practical recommendations.
- Coordinate with Interior Designers, Architects, Landscape Designers, Project Managers, and Site Supervisors.
- Provide professional recommendations regarding plant selection, maintenance, aesthetics, and long-term sustainability.
- Ensure the final landscape presentation meets the company's luxury-quality standards.

Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of horticulture and plant sciences.
- Excellent knowledge of tropical and subtropical plants suitable for Gujarat's climate.
- Knowledge of indoor and outdoor plants.
- Strong understanding of soil, fertilisers, manure, pesticides, and plant nutrition.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and water management.
- Pest and disease identification and treatment.
- Good knowledge of pruning and seasonal plant maintenance.
- Nursery and vendor management skills.
- Ability to supervise gardening teams and contractors.
- Positive site-management and coordination skills.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel / Google Sheets for reporting and inventory.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to multiple project sites.
Qualification
Preferred:
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Horticulture
- Diploma in Horticulture / Agriculture
- Degree in Agriculture with relevant horticulture experience
Candidates with strong practical horticulture experience may also be considered irrespective of formal qualification.

2-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in:
- Luxury residential landscaping
- Villa / bungalow projects
- Landscape companies
- Horticulture maintenance
- Hotels / resorts
- Premium commercial properties
- High-end residential communities

- Hands-on and technically strong in horticulture.

- Strong in preventive maintenance rather than only reactive problem-solving.
- Willing to travel between project sites as required.

Compensation
Salary: As per experience, technical competency, and industry standards.
Important Requirement
The candidate must be willing to undertake regular site visits and hands-on supervision. This is not purely an office-based horticulture position.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
