Senior IT Architecture Expert (m/f/d) – 100% Remote

Your Mission

You define and govern the end-to-end IT architecture across our central datacenter in Germany, office locations, and hybrid cloud environment. You ensure that our infrastructure, network, security, Hyper-V, server, and identity architectures are secure, scalable, resilient, and standardised.

This is an architecture and governance role: you define what must be built and why , while operational teams manage the day-to-day implementation and administration.

Your Daily Tasks

- Define and maintain the target architecture for datacenter, network, security, servers, virtualisation, cloud, and identity.
- Design and govern secure connectivity between the central datacenter and office locations.
- Define standards for LAN, WAN, VPN, IP addressing, VLANs, network segmentation, redundancy, and failover.
- Act as the architecture authority for Sophos Firewall , firewall zones, VPN security, and inter-site traffic flows.
- Define and govern Microsoft Hyper-V architecture as the exclusive on-premises virtualisation platform.
- Review and approve major infrastructure, network, office connectivity, firewall, and Hyper-V designs.
- Develop hybrid architectures connecting on-premises infrastructure with Microsoft Azure .




- Ensure that Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, network, and security architectures are aligned.
- Apply Zero Trust, least-privilege, compliance, and business-continuity principles to all architecture decisions.
- Create and maintain architecture standards, reference designs, topology diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with infrastructure, server, security, and project teams to prevent technical debt and design drift.

What We Are Looking For

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering , or a related field from a top-tier university.
- At least 12 years of experience in enterprise IT environments.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior infrastructure, solution, or IT architecture role.
- Proven experience designing enterprise datacenters and multi-site network architectures.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V , including host, cluster, high-availability, and resiliency designs.
- Strong experience with enterprise LAN, WAN, VPN, network segmentation, redundancy, and failover.
- Strong knowledge of firewall and security architecture, ideally with Sophos Firewall .
- Experience with Windows and Linux server platform architecture.




- Good understanding of Microsoft Azure, hybrid connectivity, Active Directory, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Ability to assess technical risks, challenge unsuitable designs constructively, and make sound architecture decisions.
- Strong documentation, governance, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent written and spoken English skills are required.

Certification Requirements

Mandatory – At Least One

- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert , or
- TOGAF Certified

Strongly Preferred

- Microsoft Certified: Azure Stack HCI
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Cisco CCNP Enterprise or Data Center
- Sophos Firewall Engineer or Architect Certification

- ITIL 4 Strategic Leader
- AWS Solutions Architect – Qualified
