About Seamark
Seamark Mercantile is a growing international commodity trading company dealing in foodstuffs, edible oils, fats and agricultural commodities across global markets.
We are looking for an Import & Export Operations Lead who will take complete ownership of the shipment lifecycle — from the moment a sales contract is signed until the cargo is delivered and received at the customer's factory or warehouse.
This is an ownership role. You will be responsible for making sure every shipment moves correctly, on time and with the right documentation.
The Role
You will own end-to-end import/export operations, coordinating between customers, suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, CHA/customs brokers, banks, surveyors, transporters and internal teams.
You will manage shipments across FOB, CFR, CIF, FOR and other applicable Incoterms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Contract → Shipment Execution
- Take over every shipment immediately after the sales contract is signed
- Review contract terms, Incoterms, payment terms, specifications, quantities and delivery timelines
- Create and maintain a shipment execution tracker
- Coordinate with suppliers and customers to ensure all milestones are met
2. Documentation — End to End
Own the complete shipment documentation process, including:
- Commercial invoices
- Packing lists
- Bill of Lading / shipping documents
- Certificate of Origin
- Phytosanitary / health / quality certificates where applicable
- Inspection and weight certificates
- Insurance documentation
- Export/import declarations
- Shipping instructions
- LC documentation and document coordination with banks
- Any other origin, customs or destination documentation required
3. Logistics & Shipment Coordination
- Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, CHAs/customs brokers and transporters
- Manage vessel bookings and container allocation
- Coordinate stuffing, loading and dispatch
- Track ETD, ETA,
transshipment and vessel movements
- Monitor container movements and delivery schedules
- Coordinate port clearance and inland transportation
- Ensure cargo reaches the customer's factory/warehouse
- Handle delays, demurrage, detention, documentation issues and operational exceptions
4. Incoterms & Commercial Execution
You should be comfortable independently executing shipments under:
- FOB
- CFR
- CIF
- FOR
- And other relevant Incoterms
You should understand exactly who is responsible for freight, insurance, customs, documentation, risk and delivery at each stage.
5. Customer & Supplier Coordination
- Act as the primary operations contact for customers and suppliers
- Provide regular shipment updates
- Coordinate document sharing and approvals
- Follow up for missing documents and information
- Resolve operational issues quickly
- Maintain strong communication throughout the shipment lifecycle
6. Shipment Closure
- Ensure documents are complete and correctly filed
- Coordinate final delivery confirmation
- Verify quantity/weight and relevant delivery documents
- Track claims, shortages, damages or discrepancies
- Close shipments systematically and maintain complete records
Non-Negotiables
You should be able to independently manage a shipment from contract signing to final delivery.
You should have strong practical knowledge of:
- International import/export operations
- Shipping and logistics
- Incoterms
- BL and shipping documentation
- Customs and clearance processes
- LC/documentary requirements
- Freight forwarding
- Container logistics
- Port operations
- Import/export compliance
- Supplier and customer coordination
- Shipment tracking and exception management
This is not a documentation-only role. We need someone who understands the entire physical movement of cargo and can take ownership when something goes wrong.
Why Join Seamark?
You will be joining a growing commodity trading startup and will have real ownership of international shipments from day one.
You'll get exposure to the complete trade cycle — contracts, suppliers, customers, shipping lines, freight, ports, customs, documentation, banking and final delivery.
It's a high-learning, high-ownership environment where you won't be one small part of a large operations department.
As Seamark grows, you will have the opportunity to build the operations function and team around you.
If you're someone who likes solving problems, coordinating multiple stakeholders and making sure cargo actually gets from origin to customer's warehouse without issues, this role is for you.
Ideal Candidate
- 3–7 years of import/export or international logistics experience
- Experience in commodity trading, edible oils, agri commodities, food products or similar industries preferred
- Strong knowledge of shipping documentation and Incoterms
- Excellent follow-up and coordination skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Highly organised and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working with multiple shipments simultaneously
- Robust Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Proactive problem solver who can independently manage operations
