Department:
Software Technology & Engineering
Functional Support:
Systems Administration / Infrastructure & Technology Operations
Employment Type:
Independent Contractor Part-Time – Approximately 20 hours per week
Location:
Bengaluru, India
THE OPPORTUNITY
Lead the infrastructure powering our next generation of technology and AI.
AECO Energy is looking for an experienced Fractional Technical Services Manager (Infrastructure) to provide technical leadership across our infrastructure and systems function while helping drive the infrastructure side of our emerging AI initiatives.
This is an opportunity for an experienced infrastructure leader who wants to do more than maintain systems.
You will work closely with the Software Technology & Engineering Manager to lead the Systems Administration team, drive infrastructure and AI-related projects, coordinate external technology partners, oversee data centre operations, and ensure that technical initiatives move from plan to execution to successful delivery.
A key area of focus will be supporting initiatives such as local/self-hosted Large Language Models (LLMs), GPU and compute provisioning, and AI tooling integration.
You are not expected to be a full-time AI engineer or personally implement every technical component. Instead, you will provide the technical leadership needed to understand requirements, establish priorities, coordinate resources, manage risks, challenge assumptions, and ensure the team delivers effectively.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead AI infrastructure implementation by providing leadership and coordination for initiatives such as local/self-hosted LLM deployment, GPU/compute provisioning, and AI tooling integration—planning the work and directing the Systems Administration team's hands-on execution. You are not expected to implement these initiatives personally.
- Drive technical project delivery by acting as the delivery lead for AI infrastructure and other technical initiatives, breaking work into Jira-tracked tasks, establishing timelines, coordinating dependencies, and driving projects through to completion—not simply maintaining steady-state operations.
- Lead the Systems Administration team by setting priorities, managing day-to-day activities, removing blockers, coordinating resources, and maintaining accountability for delivery.
- Manage the team's work through Jira by maintaining the backlog, sprints, task boards, priorities, and delivery tracking to ensure infrastructure and AI implementation work remains visible, structured, and accountable.
- Own data centre operations including system uptime, maintenance scheduling, capacity planning, and coordination with data centre and facilities vendors.
- Manage external technical support relationships by acting as the primary liaison with external support organisations, overseeing SLAs, coordinating escalations, and managing day-to-day service delivery.
- Oversee infrastructure and platform reliability across the environments managed by the team, including Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows Server/RDS, Proxmox virtualisation, networking (DNS/DHCP/VPN/firewall), and backup and disaster recovery.
- Oversee vendor and licence management across managed platforms, infrastructure services, and technology solutions, ensuring appropriate coordination, service levels, and licence coverage.
- Strengthen infrastructure security and compliance by reviewing and enforcing security practices, conducting access reviews, monitoring MFA compliance, and ensuring adherence to applicable policies and controls.
- Maintain and improve technical documentation including IT documentation, SOPs, configuration records, and operational procedures supporting the Systems Administration function.
- Serve as the Tier 2/3 escalation point for platform and infrastructure incidents that the Systems Administration team cannot resolve independently, ensuring appropriate investigation, escalation, and resolution.
- Provide regular technology reporting to the Manager, Software Technology & Engineering on delivery status, operational matters, key risks, issues, and overall project progress.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a technically credible infrastructure leader who can lead through people, manage delivery, and turn complex technical requirements into clear execution plans.
Your Experience:
- 8–12+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, technical services, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading or managing an infrastructure, systems administration, or technical services team.
- Demonstrated experience delivering infrastructure or technology projects end-to-end.
- Strong ability to manage priorities, dependencies, timelines, risks, and technical resources.
- Experience managing external IT vendors, managed service providers, or infrastructure support partners.
- Experience managing SLAs, service delivery, escalations, and vendor performance.
- Experience with data centre operations in on-premises and/or cloud environments.
- Experience managing backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery processes.
- Experience working with distributed or geographically dispersed teams is highly desirable.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
AI & Emerging Technology:
You should have a practical understanding of AI infrastructure concepts sufficient to lead and evaluate implementation work. This includes an understanding of:
- Local or self-hosted LLM deployment
- GPU and compute provisioning
- Infrastructure requirements for AI workloads
- AI tooling and infrastructure integration
- Capacity, performance, security, and reliability considerations for AI environments
Nice to Have - Areas for Future Growth:
The following capabilities are not mandatory, but would be valuable as AECO Energy's technology and AI environment continues to evolve:
Hands-on experience with self-hosted LLM platforms such as Ollama or vLLM
- Experience with GPU infrastructure or AI compute environments
- Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Exposure to AWS or Microsoft Azure
- Familiarity with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
- Understanding of vector databases and AI knowledge-retrieval infrastructure
- Experience overseeing CRM, PBX/VoIP, or other business-critical platforms
- Experience with infrastructure automation, monitoring, and observability
- Exposure to technology environments supporting international or distributed organizations.
WHAT MAKES THIS EXCEPTIONAL
Lead, Don't Just Maintain
This is not a traditional infrastructure operations position. You will be expected to drive initiatives, establish priorities, remove blockers, coordinate technical resources, and deliver outcomes.
Help Shape AI Infrastructure
You will have an opportunity to contribute to the infrastructure foundation supporting AECO Energy's emerging AI capabilities, including self-hosted LLM and AI compute initiatives.
Real Technical Ownership
Your leadership will directly influence infrastructure reliability, technical standards, vendor performance, security practices, project delivery, and the development of the Systems Administration function.
Work Closely with Technology Leadership
You will work directly with the Software Technology & Engineering Manager and contribute to broader technology and infrastructure priorities.
International Exposure
AECO Energy operates across India, Singapore, Australia, and the Philippines, providing an opportunity to collaborate across multiple markets and time zones.
Flexible Fractional Leadership
The role is approximately 20 hours per week, making it well suited to an experienced technology leader who wants to apply their expertise in a focused, high-impact capacity.

THE PITCH
You might be a great fit for this role if you are an experienced infrastructure leader who enjoys turning technical complexity into structured delivery.
You understand infrastructure deeply enough to ask the right questions, but you are equally comfortable leading through others.
You enjoy taking an initiative from “We should do this.” to “Here is the plan, here are the owners, these are the dependencies, these are the risks, and here is when it will be delivered.”
You are organized without being bureaucratic.
You are technically credible without needing to do everything yourself.
You are decisive without being reckless.
You hold people accountable while supporting them to succeed.
And when something gets stuck, you don't simply report the problem - you work out what needs to happen next.
If you are looking for a versatile leadership opportunity where your infrastructure experience can directly contribute to AI implementation, technical transformation, and international business operations, we'd like to hear from you.
Working Environment
This is a part-time independent contractor engagement of approximately 20 hours per week, based in Bengaluru, India. The preferred arrangement is:
- 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, or
- 3 days one week / 2 days the following week, depending on mutual agreement and business requirements.
The role will involve collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across India and Southeast Asian time zones. Some flexibility may occasionally be required for international meetings, project activities, technical incidents, or critical infrastructure requirements. This is primarily a technical leadership, project delivery, coordination, and oversight role, rather than a full-time hands-on systems administration position.
Remote / Hybrid Work Requirements
The successful candidate must maintain a secure and reliable home-office environment and have:
- A computer capable of running the latest Microsoft 365 applications.
- A stable, high-speed internet connection.
- A professional and secure workspace suitable for confidential business information.
- Reliable capability for online meetings and technical collaboration.
- Appropriate security arrangements when accessing company systems and information.
