Mental Health Counselor / Student Wellness Counselor

Location: Kopargaon, Maharashtra
Reports To: HAG & CHRO
Position Summary
Sanjivani Group of Institutes invites applications for the position of Mental Health Counselor to promote the psychological well-being of students and employees across its diverse educational ecosystem, including Engineering, Polytechnic, Pharmacy, Management, Commerce, Computer Applications, Postgraduate, and Doctoral programmes.
The Counselor will provide confidential psychological counseling, crisis intervention, preventive mental health programmes, and emotional wellness initiatives while fostering a healthy, inclusive, and supportive campus environment. The role also extends to promoting employee mental well-being through awareness programmes, counseling support, and stress management initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Counseling Services
- Provide confidential individual counseling to students experiencing:
Academic stressAnxiety and depressionRelationship concernsFamily issuesEmotional distressSelf-esteem concernsExamination stressAdjustment to campus lifeCareer uncertaintyHomesicknessSubstance misuse concernsConduct intake assessments and maintain confidential counseling records.Develop individualized support and intervention plans.Monitor student progress through scheduled follow-up sessions.
2. Crisis Intervention & Risk Management
- Provide immediate psychological support during crises.
Assess and manage students at risk of self-harm or suicide.Coordinate with parents, medical professionals,
and institutional authorities during emergencies.Maintain crisis response protocols in collaboration with the Medical Officer, Hostel Wardens, and Security Department.Refer cases requiring psychiatric intervention to qualified mental health specialists.
3. Preventive Mental Health Programmes
Design and conduct regular awareness programmes on:
- Stress Management
Emotional IntelligenceTime ManagementExamination AnxietyBuilding ResiliencePositive PsychologyHealthy RelationshipsDigital Well-beingSocial Media AddictionSubstance Abuse PreventionAnger ManagementMindfulness and MeditationSleep HygieneLife Skills Development
4. Employee Mental Well-being
Provide wellness support for teaching and non-teaching staff through:
- Individual counseling (where appropriate)
Stress and burnout managementWork-life balance workshopsEmotional resilience programmesFaculty well-being initiativesPsychological first aid after critical incidentsAwareness on workplace mental health
5. Student Outreach & Engagement
- Conduct orientation sessions for newly admitted students.
Promote awareness regarding available counseling services.Organize Mental Health Week, Wellness Month,
and awareness campaigns.Encourage help-seeking behaviour and reduce stigma associated with mental health.Develop self-help resources and wellness materials.
6. Collaboration with Academic Departments
Work closely with:
- Principals
DeansHeads of DepartmentsFaculty MentorsClass TeachersHostel WardensNSS/NCC CoordinatorsAnti-Ragging CommitteeInternal Complaints Committee (ICC)Student Development CellPlacement Cell
to identify students requiring timely psychological support.
7. Parent Engagement
- Conduct counseling sessions involving parents whenever appropriate.
Guide parents in supporting students facing emotional or behavioural challenges.Maintain skilled communication while respecting confidentiality and ethical standards.
8. Training & Capacity Building
Develop and deliver training programmes for faculty, mentors, wardens, and student leaders on:
- Early identification of mental health concerns
Psychological first aidActive listeningStudent mentoringSuicide preventionReferral mechanismsCreating psychologically safe classrooms
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain confidential counseling records.
Prepare monthly reports on:Number of counseling sessionsWellness programmes conductedStudent participationEmerging mental health trendsEnsure compliance with ethical and legal standards regarding confidentiality and record management.
10. Campus Mental Health Initiatives
Lead initiatives such as:
- Peer Support Programme
Student Wellness ClubsHappiness & Gratitude CampaignsMental Health Screening DrivesExam-Time Wellness SupportAnti-Stress ActivitiesMindfulness and Yoga Sessions (with Physical Education Department)Digital Detox Campaigns
