Role Overview
The Head of Engineering – Solar Projects will lead end -to -end engineering for large -scale, ground -mounted solar power plants. The role covers concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, cost optimization, power evacuation, commissioning support, and digital transformation. The position requires robust leadership across DC, AC, civil & structural engineering, hybrid systems, BESS, and grid interconnection, with accountability for LCoE optimization and design excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Lead end -to -end engineering for utility -scale solar projects (100 MW to multi -GW).
- Define engineering strategy, standards, SOPs, and specifications.
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams (DC, AC, Civil, Structural, Power Evacuation, BESS).
- Act as the technical authority for land -based solar engineering decisions.
2. Front -End & Detailed Engineering
- Lead concept design, feasibility studies, FEED, and detailed engineering.
- Oversee plant layouts, SLDs, GAs, module/inverter selection, DC/AC sizing, cable schedules, and loss calculations.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IS, IEEE, CEA, DISCOM, and utility standards.
3. Cost Optimization & Financial Engineering
- Drive LCoE and Capex optimization through design and technology innovation.
- Perform energy yield assessments using PVsyst / SAM.
- Support financial models (LCoE, IRR, NPV, LCoS).
- Prepare engineering budgets and secure approvals.
4. Power Evacuation & Grid Integration
- Lead engineering of pooling substations (33kV–765kV) and transmission lines.
- Coordinate with DISCOMs, TRANSCOs, PGCIL, NTPC, SLDCs for approvals.
- Ensure statutory clearances and grid compliance.
5. Hybrid, BESS & Emerging Technologies
- Lead engineering for Solar + Wind + BESS hybrid plants.
- Oversee battery sizing, technology evaluation, and optimization.
- Support green hydrogen integration.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.
6. Project Support & Execution Interface
- Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Resolve site -level engineering issues and deviations.
- Support QA, inspections, and performance validation.
7. Digital Transformation & Innovation
- Lead deployment of design and construction monitoring platforms.
- Implement drone -based monitoring, energy analytics, and asset digitization.
- Evaluate tools such as PVcase, SenseHawk, Solar Labs.
- Drive R&D; initiatives, POCs, and pilot projects.
8. Stakeholder & Management Interface
- Present engineering proposals, budgets, and progress to senior leadership.
- Support pre -bid/post -bid engineering, due diligence, and M&A.;
- Collaborate with EPCs, OEMs, consultants, and regulators.
