About the Role

Kanan.co is looking for a creative and performance-focused Video Editor to join our YouTube Growth Team. The ideal candidate should understand how editing contributes to YouTube growth, audience retention, engagement, and content performance.

The candidate must have a professionally maintained showreel/portfolio account and should be able to complete a practical editing task assigned by the company as part of the selection process.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

- Edit YouTube Long form videos, Shorts, Reels, promotional videos, interviews, educational content, and other digital content.
- Transform raw footage into engaging, polished, and audience-friendly videos.
- Create strong hooks, transitions, pacing, storytelling, and visual sequences to improve viewer retention.
- Edit content according to YouTube audience behaviour, trends, and platform requirements.
- Add subtitles, captions, motion graphics, animations, sound effects, B-rolls, images, and other visual elements wherever required.
- Select and synchronize appropriate background music, voiceovers, sound effects, and audio elements.
- Create engaging thumbnails/visual assets when required or coordinate with the design team for the same.
- Repurpose long-form YouTube content into YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and other short-form formats.
- Work closely with the YouTube Growth Team, content writers, scriptwriters, presenters, and marketing team.
- Follow brand guidelines and maintain consistency across all video content.
- Review edited videos carefully to ensure there are no technical, grammatical, visual, or audio errors.
- Manage multiple editing projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.
- Stay updated with YouTube trends, editing styles, viral formats, transitions, effects, and audience preferences.
- Analyse feedback and make revisions quickly and accurately.
- Maintain an organised library of raw footage,



project files, assets, music, graphics, and final exports.
- Contribute creative ideas for improving video quality, engagement, watch time, and overall channel growth.

YouTube Growth Responsibilities The candidate will not only be responsible for basic video editing but should understand the growth-oriented approach to content editing, including:

- Creating strong opening hooks within the first few seconds.
- Maintaining audience retention through effective pacing.
- Identifying unnecessary portions and improving content flow.
- Using pattern interrupts, text animations, B-rolls, graphics, and visual changes appropriately.
- Understanding the importance of watch time, retention, engagement, and CTR from an editing perspective.
- Creating different versions of content for testing and performance improvement.
- Studying successful YouTube content and applying relevant editing techniques.
- Supporting the team in creating content designed for higher reach and audience engagement.

Required Skills

- 6 Months+ professional or strong practical experience in video editing.
- Robust knowledge of video editing principles and storytelling.
- Proficiency in at least one professional editing software such as:
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Adobe After Effects
- DaVinci Resolve
- Adobe Photoshop
- Basic understanding of motion graphics and visual effects.
- Good knowledge of audio editing, colour correction, subtitles, transitions, and pacing.
- Understanding of YouTube Long form and short-form video content.
- Creativity and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under deadlines.
- Ability to understand feedback and implement revisions quickly.
- Good communication and coordination skills.





Showreel / Portfolio Requirement A professionally maintained showreel or portfolio is mandatory.

Candidates should provide

- Latest showreel
- YouTube/Instagram editing samples
- Long-form and short-form video samples
- Before/after editing examples, if available
- Links to previous professional work or portfolio

Candidates without relevant work samples may not be considered.

Practical Task Requirement

As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete an editing task provided by Kanan.co.
